This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Since we have a large ESL population, Literacy is a main focus throughout our day. Our students are immersed in many genres of different cultures. One of the major components of a literate environment is a reading nook or corner where students can meet and read.
Many of our students have not had the opportunity to discover books and experience reading for pleasure.
This allows them to develop their imaginations and their love for books. Our school is mainly ESL students who have come to America without books of their own. Our goal is to give them the opportunity to experience books and value the experience a book can give them.
My Project
Our students will use these two I'm an American Classroom Rugs in a literate environment as a meeting place, a place to share ideas, and a comfortable place to enjoy books for pleasure. The carpets we have chosen follow closely the fact that we have many different cultures that make up our student population.
The requested I'm an American Classroom Rugs will improve our classroom by allowing us to increase our leveled book library space and making it a more comfortable area that is conducive to learning.
By utilizing our leveled book area more, we should see an increase in their independent reading levels. The carpets will allow us to also use this as a small group instruction area.
