My students need access to close up observation of a variety of animal skeletons and x-rays. They need to make comparisons and analyze how they are alike and different.
Imagine being asked to compare and contrast different animal skeletons, but only using a photo. Our students are eager learners who thrive on hands-on activities. The achievement we see when they can interact with materials is truly incredible! Help us make this a reality!
Our school services students throughout the county in our area.
We are a unique building housing all 5-6 graders in the district. The size of our building leaves resources stretched at times. Especially with science activities and materials, we are spread extremely thin.
My Project
Our student scientists beg for hands-on activities where they get to experience in real life the images we show them in books and on the screen. Imagine being able to make connections by looking at real life animal skeletons and corresponding x-rays! Students rarely get the opportunity to have realistic hands-on materials such as the ones I am requesting. Having the ability to have access to these incredible x-rays and skeletons will impact their understanding in a way that will help them make connections.
The ability to access authentic things in science helps them feel like the real "scientists" we tell them they are each day!
They need to feel that what they are learning is applicable in the real world. Seeing these bones and how they are similar and different is a unique opportunity to extend their learning in ways they would not have the opportunity to otherwise.
