My students need the concrete activities similar to the items in the Discovery Cans. They also need additional practice with the practice cards and math prompts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom consists of an ELL population where most students' parents don't speak English. Teaching in an ELL classroom can be difficult for students to understand abstract concepts without hands on manipulatives. By the end of the school year, I expect my students to be on or above grade level.
Our school has a diverse ELL population with students who are eager to learn but come to school with a lot of excess baggage.
We have many different cultures and customs that make up our school. Our students speak at least 10 different languages. Some of our students are New Americans, meaning they have been in our country for less than a year. Our neighborhood school is located in an area that is socio-economically challenged. Our school building is one of the oldest schools in our district and is not equipped with the most modern updates.
My Project
Our students will use these manipulatives on a daily basis to reinforce and enrich their mathematics skills. These tools will allow them to have a solid foundation in basic mathematic areas. They will be able to solve problems dealing with place value, fractions, multiplication, and division. Headphones will allow ELL students to immerse themselves in the English language independently.
Donations will allow my students to be successful and abstract thinkers in a technological advanced world.
Many of our students' parents did not finish high school and this will enable my students to have a better future.
