My students love to be read to. Their imaginations run wild, and they have so much fun acting out what they have learned in the books we read. Any time that we are able to connect reading stories into content areas, especially science, I know that they will be highly engaged in the lesson.
I have 22 super five and six years old!
Everything they do is done with gusto and excitement. Hands on learning is the very best way to reach them and hold their attention. They come from varying backgrounds and have different needs and levels, but they are always ready and willing to work together to learn new things and solve problems. Smarter, together is the way to be in our classroom! Despite our backgrounds and experiences, the kids encourage and cheer for each other when we are working on science experiments or playing outside at recess. My students match my enthusiasm and are constantly encouraging me to try new things in the classroom by showing their eagerness to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten students need to be actively engaged and given opportunities to explore and investigate. With the materials I have requested, I believe that this vision will come to life. With the science discovery kits, the students will be given the chance to work in small groups throughout the classroom. The kits are designed so that the kids can perform experiments on their own and also challenge them with photo activity cards. The fairy tale kits incorporate their love of reading stories and active learning. They will be able to work together to ask questions and solve problems designed around the fairy tales. Having enough supplies to spread throughout the classroom will ensure that everyone has a chance to get their hands on the activity and be a part of the experiment. Working smarter, together is a goal for our kindergarten students.
This project will change my students' lives for the better, because it will help to build a foundation of STEM learning and encourage them to be confident in trying new things.
It will build their confidence in asking questions about how things work and looking to find the answer. The science kits are a wonderful way to supplement our current curriculum, and I will be able to share with the other two kindergarten classrooms at my school. We will work "smarter, together" to benefit our students.
