My students need materials to foster their engineering and science skills in a Makerspace including: Snap Circuits, LED Lights, Makey Makey Kits, and various craft supplies.
What if you had the opportunity to make and create in the classroom? What if students could foster their engineering skills by using 21st Century Learning materials to create anything their minds could dream of? My students have this opportunity in our class Makerspace every day!
My students are dreamers, doers, and thinkers.
They yearn to design and innovate. With high demands in our current curriculum, our class Makerspace gives them the opportunity to develop these skills while fostering a STEM-centered classroom. My school is constantly striving to improve student instruction and to have as many STEM and 21st century learning experiences as possible for students.
My Project
These materials will enable my students to be smarter together, and will allow them to continue to answer their never-ending science and engineering questions. Using materials like LED lights, motors, and art supplies, like popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners, students will be able to create anything they imagine. LEGO bricks will allow kinesthetic learners the ability to construct on a daily basis. Moreover, feathers, pom poms, and other supplies will help foster this creative environment. Our Makerspace's guiding question is, "What can you create today to make the world a better place?" Students will have the opportunity to continue to discover more about the scientific world around them through creating motorized projects, new and inventive ways to improve on previous inventions, and much, much more. The Makerspace movement is essential, in helping students become engineers, in today's Common Core world, where it is easy to get lost in the world of standards and English language arts.
As a former middle school science teacher, it is my mission to always engage my students, and allow them the opportunity to become free thinking innovators.
It is nearly impossible to keep up with the materials needed for a classroom Makerspace, despite my best efforts. This project would provide so many of my students, with an opportunity to create in the classroom, giving them confidence and creativity in today's world.
