This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walking into our classroom, you are likely to see students scattered around the room. Some are at a table with me, while others work collaboratively on one of our carpets, on a bench, at desks, or at tables. Students love being given the choice of where to sit!
My students attend a dual language school in a low-income district where every child receives a free breakfast and lunch.
In my room, they learn math and science in Spanish. In addition to mastering content, students must work hard to read, write, listen, and speak in two languages.
My Project
We currently have three Hokki stools in our classroom that are used exclusively by the students who need them the most. I truly believe that every student can benefit from a seating option that strengthens the core and allows movement. There will always be work that has to be done at tables or desks in a classroom, but sitting on Hokki stools will allow students to focus their brains on their work while their bodies wiggle as children's should.
I'm working to build a classroom environment that is healthy for both students' bodies and their brains.
Together, we can join the education revolution that is putting a stop to the idea that children must sit still to learn. Moving bodies can be a step towards focused brains!
