My students are hungry for technology and can thrive when allowed to use it in the classroom.
My students range from Kindergarten to second grade in a small-group setting.
They are students who strive each day to succeed and be better than the day before. They are eager to learn and more eager to utilize technology in the classroom. They live in a district of low income and high poverty, resulting in technology not being available in every home. This lack of technology in the home creates a disadvantage for my students in a technology-driven society. My students love to have technology in their hands.
My Project
I envision my students using the iPad Mini and the OSMO gaming system for independent work for literacy and math skills. The OSMO system includes vocabulary building activities to increase word recognition and decoding skills. The iPad will be an addition to another tablet in the classroom to increase available technology for students who may otherwise not be exposed to technology. These requested resources allow my classroom to open doors that instruction with pencil and paper cannot open. The world of apps is limitless, and my students can only flourish and expand their knowledge from the use of these apps and gaming systems.
By adding the iPad and OSMO with existing technology, I am providing the opportunity for my students to not be short-changed and be at a disadvantage to their peers from other districts.
Many surrounding districts have similar technology in the classroom and I want to give my students that same opportunity. Donations to this project will increase my students familiarity with technology and increase their comfort level for the future use of technology, while improving literacy and math skills.
