“I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.” - Albert Einstein
We are a self-contained program serving students with communication, behavior and social skills needs.
Their ages range from K-5 and cover a wide variety of abilities from verbal to non-verbal. We are a school in the Midwest with a free and reduced priced lunch rate ranging year to year of 60-80%.
My Project
I imagine a classroom where all students are actively engaged in their education throughout the entire day, but to do that the materials in class must be engaging. The reading games and activities will present learning tasks in an engaging manner. I have requested hop along balls to give the students the opportunity to be active and prepare for learning. I have requested building sets that require students to work together in order to complete and require fine motor skills to snap together, and magnetic sets that will enhance science skills. These enticing items will draw students in to their learning in a way that paper and pencil tasks never will. The Velcro will help to construct learning materials that are easier for the children to manage without pieces flying about.
Every moment of our day is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Being engaged in what we are learning is very important to me. These new materials, manipulatives, games, and building pieces will allow them to learn together.
