My Students

Many of my students are having success in mathematics for the first time since elementary school. It's a joy to see the confidence they have in themselves. Students have to believe they can achieve. Our anthem is "I love myself, I believe in myself, I'm proud of myself, I'm a genius."

My students are from low income families.

We are a Title 1 school which means 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. That fact by no means diminishes their levels of intelligence. My students are very eager to learn but sometimes they get discouraged and frustrated when they can't immediately get the correct answer. Our school motto is "Hard Work Pays Off". Our students are learning that nothing worth having comes for free, you will have to work hard. They are very supportive of their school however, they hate being at school let them tell it. We can't seem to get them to leave at the end of the school day. I want my students to have every advantage to advance in this world, no matter what their home circumstances may be.

My Project

My students will create and design their own Algebra/Geometry resource book. This resource book will contain vocabulary words written in the student's own words with pictures, how the words were used in a lesson. The students will have a table of content, examples and explanations of every lesson. The students will include worksheets, tests, quizzes, and homework. Students will label and identify which part of the assignments they had difficulties understanding. By using the color paper & cardboard, printers to print off examples, and pictures from the Internet, color pencils, markers, and a binding machine to bind all this information to create a fantastic looking resource book. Students will learn that many of the math skills and concepts they learned this school year will be revisited no matter what level of mathematics they take next year school. This is an invaluable resource for students who are not as confident about math as other.

My students have had problems with mathematics since elementary school.

When students see that they can achieve in math, their whole face lights up. I want them to take this resource book with them to help keep the light on their faces shining brightly. Donations to this project will improve our classroom by allowing students to create an Algebra/Geometry resource book needed for their next level of mathematics (Algebra II) and help foster pride in their ability to design and create.
