This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in the Essential Skills classroom are learning basic skills in chemistry, biology, physics, and life sciences. They require hands on picture supported material to gain an elementary understanding of those topics. At this time, they have no materials to access and no lab space.
Our students are special needs with a high level of needed support who require hands on activities to demonstrate basic skills in all areas.
They are eager to try new things. They come from varying economic backgrounds. They attend a school where the majority of students receive free/reduced meals. They have limited access to learning opportunities in the community and in school. By doing hands on activities, they learn to follow directions, work individually and in cooperative groups which are important skills to be marketable in the work place.
My Project
Our students will use the materials to learn about chemical bonds, physical and chemical reactions, the earth around them and its geologic makeup, force and motion, and foods they eat to broaden life experiences and hopefully to expand and generalize these experiences to life experiences. Our students are working and learning together to advance themselves both academically and in the future.
By having access to these science material kits like Fun with Chemistry; Simple Machines; Geology Rocks and Minerals our students will be able to have a more inclusive high school science experience.
They will also come to have a better understanding of the world around them. This will also have an impact on their employability after graduation.
