My students need a more inviting place to read as well as highly preferred books. By getting these 3 book sets and 3 loungers my class reading area would be used more.
My classroom is a self-contained special education classroom that serves students with cognitive disabilities.
"I choose not to place "DIS" in my ability." ~Robert M. Hensel
Each of my students need repetitive and differentiated instruction in order to learn academic skills.
They have many different disabilities that range from Autism, Down's Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, etc. My students are not defined by their disabilities. They all have the ability to learn and succeed; I just have to be creative in how I teach them.
My Project
My students lack the typical reading skills of their same age peers. In order to get my students to read they need to be highly interested in the reading process (comfort of the reading nook and the books they will look at and/or read). The students will be highly motivated by the books and the space with the loungers.
With these highly interesting books my students will have the ability to enjoy books at their reading level.
When my students can read the text, they will become more confident readers and begin to enjoy reading. The enjoyment of reading is half of the battle while getting students to read more often.
