Cacophony and chaos are transformed into distinct melodies, every day. Students walk into the band room, and begin their day by warming up. These sounds are then crafted together, during rehearsal, to create music that is pleasing to the ears.
Students, at my school, are quite diverse.
From their background, to their lifestyle, diversity is common with the students at my school.
The school building, that I spend the majority of my day at, is the Junior High. This building is an older building, that is in need of some technological advancements, which the district is working on.
My class sizes are fairly large. Although it may not seem like many students for a band class, most of my classes are packed with over 50 students.
My Project
The iPad will be used in a variety of ways. The biggest use for the iPad will be for assessment and feedback. Currently, with the sizes of my classes, it proves quite difficult to hear every student, every week, on an individual basis. If I were to give individual playing tests in class, this would take up multiple class periods, of every week, just to listen to students. With the iPad, I will be able to have students record their playing tests, in my office, while I continue teaching, out in the classroom.
Providing students feedback is imperative to improving student performance, in any class.
This is especially true in the music classroom. If a student never knows that they are singing or playing something incorrectly, they will never fix it. This iPad will allow me the opportunity to provide this feedback, while continuing instruction.
