My classroom is growing more than a garden, this is our motto each day! I want my kids to have the opportunity to learn in nature and in a garden. My class is eager to learn and we are in a low income school. Most of my students have never had the opportunity to grow vegetables.
My students are eager to learn with hands on projects.
Our garden started last year and we are in need of materials to provide our students a place to learn while outside in the garden. Our school has 750 +/- students k-5 and every student eats free. My students do not have the opportunity to learn about nature and gardens at home.
My Project
My students will be using the shovels to plant in the raised garden beds. Each student will be able to dig and plant as a class. The benches will help us learn outside. In the garden we often make observations and record data. We are in need of more seating. The umbrellas will allow us to learn on the sunny days and provide necessary shade. I currently weed whack the grass and would like to receive the mowers to allow the kids to learn about simple machines while cutting the grass. We requested the arbor, because we would like to see grapes grow on the vines up the arbor.
The donations will improve the classroom because we will be able to extend science outside.
This will change their lives for the better because they will have a full understanding of a garden. Studies have shown kids that respect nature tend to respect their natural habitats. This would help improve our overall neighborhood conditions.
