My students need an etching press to learn about history and literacy through printmaking.

The greatest thing about teaching high school is that I get to know really amazing people before they realize how amazing they are. I have a responsibility to teach my students to be exceptional citizens of the world and I take that responsibility very seriously.
My students come from many diverse backgrounds.
I teach students from over 30 different countries, many of whom are learning English as a second language. My students are dedicated young artists who eagerly accept all of the challenges that I put before them. They are so excited to learn new techniques and the history of the artwork they are creating.
Printmaking is an art form with a very rich history. In learning the printmaking techniques, my students will be empowered through art to learn the history of print, bookmaking, and humankind. I teach my students that there were three very important discoveries in human history: fire, the wheel, and the printing press. Without print, we would never have the freedom to learn and read that we have today. We would never have free books, the Internet, and free education and we would never have equal access to education across all races, genders, and socioeconomic levels. My students will learn about the history and with our own press, will be able to create artwork to express their knowledge, feelings, and beliefs. We will be able to incorporate text in our artwork which will give my students an outlet for creative writing.
Without a press in my classroom, my students have only been able to simply scratch the surface of printmaking.
If we had our own press, we would be able to really dive into the techniques and processes. Many of my students plan to apply and attend college for Art & Design. With this valuable printmaking experience, they will have more competitive portfolios and a better chance of receiving admission and scholarships.
