My students need yoga balls to replace traditional chairs in the classroom. The rings will help keep them in place.

My Students

My first graders want to learn but have a difficult time staying focused. Sitting for any length of time is difficult for them.

I teach first grade students in a low economic area.

My school has a large number of free or reduced lunch households. Many of the students have a difficult home life and like to be at school and want to learn. The ability to focus has progressively become more and more difficult with the amount of rigor that is expected of them at school as well as the worries they bring with them to school each day.

My Project

I am requesting yoga/stability balls to replace the traditional chairs in the classroom. There have been studies to show the positive effects that they have on students focus in the classroom. It has been said that students have low core strength and have a constant need for movement, especially students diagnosed ADD or ADHD. This need for movement inhibits their ability to focus in the classroom. The yoga balls will help build their core strength and help focus them on the learning.

Think about yourself sitting on a hard chair or floor all day long!

How uncomfortable! Yoga balls with solve two problems at once. Kids will build core strength which will help reduce the constant need for movement and help them stay focused for longer lengths of time and retain the new information being taught.
