My students get so excited about STEM topics and are eager to do any engaging hands on activities. My goal: “I do not teach anyone I only provide the environment in which they can learn." A. Einstein
My students live in a rural area with high poverty levels.
Funding is extremely limited, but love and caring staff is widely available. The students work very hard to do their best despite many having less than favorable conditions outside of school. For these students school may be the positive place where they can gain confidence and knowledge they need to be successful in life in their social, academic, and career endeavors. Coming to class and being able to participate in engaging learning activities is the highlight of their day. It prepares them for real world scenarios of problem solving and independence. I think my school really strives to provide these students with the opportunities that they need to become successful in their lives.
My Project
I will use the materials to do hands on science activities. I hope to get the students engaged in the learning process by providing them a chance to ask questions, research, plan, create, and test their ideas. If the students can do this process until they are successful it will not only help them gain knowledge, but provide them with encouragement to become independent thinkers that have the ability to problem solve in the real world.
Donations would improve my classroom by providing the materials to do many hands on engaging science activities in a variety of areas of science that are on grade level.
Students will get a chance to explore many of the ideas in science that they study in class through more than just reading and learning vocabulary.
