My students need materials that will create a MakerSpace station, including three stools, legos, a Makey Makey Invention Kit, and a littleBits Electronics Kit
We teach students who have Innovative ideas. Ideas to help solve problems. Ideas that will help better the world they live in. Our job is to provide an environment where those ideas can be explored and developed.
My students are creative leaders who want to make a difference.
My school offers diversity and a great group of teachers who care about their students. My school is located in a major metropolitan area in the Midwest. We promote leadership and encourage students to find their inner voice through leadership skills and personal growth.
My class consist of 24 eager and excited fourth graders who come to school each day ready to lead. They learn about the world around them through investigation and problem solving. They love to conduct experiments, such as exploring what materials conduct electricity and how they can use this information to promote safety.
My students learn best when they are able to move. They are 9- and 10-year olds whose brains are activated when they their bodies are activated. Movement helps them focus and produce better learning results.
My Project
The materials we are requesting will be used to create a Makerspace station in our classroom. A Makerspace provides an opportunity for students to design, create, and test their ideas. Our classroom Makerspace will include stools that safely move while students work. The Makey Makey invention kit allows the students to turn everyday objects around them into something new using conductivity. One of my students' learning goals is to create electrical circuits and explore conductivity. The littleBits Electronic Kit and Snapcircuits will not only safely allow students to explore electricity, but use it to create and apply it to their inventions. The Extraordinaire Design Studio Deluxe Edition Game provides many challenges to push students to think creatively. Finally, the structures students could create with Legos are endless. These bricks can act as a model or prototype as students build out their ideas.
The donations of these resources will promote innovative thinking in my classroom.
These resources not only help students learn content, but they will teach students a way of learning by problem solving, creating, testing and observing ideas. This is the process of learning they will practice for the rest of their lives. Let's teach them that learning can be fun and rewarding. Students can see their creative ideas become reality.
