Remember building, creating, tearing it down, and creating something new? Students are yearning for the opportunity to do just that. The Makerspace in our library has become a place students love to come and create. Adding this piece of technology will increase their opportunities to create.
The students at my elementary school all visit the library every week.
Besides learning about books, how to research, and how to use technology, students are learning how to become 'Makers' in the Makerspace. Kindergarten students through fifth grade students are given the opportunity to use their creativity and collaborate with others. Through this collaboration, students learn how to write code, program robots, build, create, and invent new ways to use old materials. Students are hungry for more challenges and a variety of different types of technology.
My Project
A 3D printer would be a valuable resource for students to use to increase their ability to think creatively and problem solve. They will be inspired to design models, study engineering, visualize and revise their ideas, then complete a final project. Students will also be able to turn their 2D ideas into a real 3D item. Through experimentation and collaboration with others, students will be able to understand concepts in other curricular areas, such as mathematics. Students will become inventors, innovators, and visionaries to easily make prototypes for designs they were only able to think about in the past.
This donation will provide my students with technology that they have only seen in the gaming world.
The 3D printer will help prepare them for the 21st century world they are surrounded by. One of the biggest benefits of a 3D printer is the mindset students will progress through. The 'Makers' will be motivated, captivated, and unleash all the creative possibilities they have been just thinking about for years.
