My students need a binding machine, combs, and folders to help them organize and publish their writing!

"The secret of becoming a writer is to write, write, and keep on writing." ~ Ken MacLeod, author
My kindergarteners are a diverse group of 5- and 6-year-olds who attend a public elementary school in Missouri.
Many of them have little or no exposure to academic concepts before they walk into my classroom on the first day of school, and they are eager to begin their journey as learners. My students represent a wide variety of cultural, family, and economic backgrounds. Several face additional obstacles, such as speaking a different language at home, or having special needs including language processing impairments and speech difficulties. The one thing that they all have in common is their excitement about being in kindergarten and their desire to learn!
As my students become better writers, they love to see their writing published! Class books are a favorite classroom resource. We often write stories on the same topic, then create a book that features each student's writing. Students can read these books in our reading area, and they even take them home to read to their families! Sadly, the book binding machine in our school recently broke and we were told that we wouldn't be able to purchase a new one. Our newer class books are held together with binder rings or staples, and quickly begin to fall apart! The materials in this project will allow me to organize my students' writing and bind it into books that will be long-lasting and durable, so that they can enjoy seeing the amazing results of their hard work!
These book binding supplies will be used to create many class books that my students will read again and again!
They will also be able to once again take our books home to share with their families, making the families feel like part of our classroom community. At the end of the year, I will be able to create "My Kindergarten Writing" books for each of my students as a keepsake of their journey as writers!
