My Students
I am working in a low income school and many of my students are below level in reading. Many of them can not afford to get books at home to read. Having a variety of books that interest them will help them learn to love to read.
Today a reader, Tomorrow a Leader by Margaret Fuller
My students come from a low income families.
The entire school is on free or reduce lunch. The school is reopening in the district as a kindergarten center. The majority of the students are African American. There are some Hispanic and biracial. The district has recently (2 year) been taken over by the state.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will be used to create a classroom library. This will allow students to get books in their hands. The books are of wide variety of genre and of topics that will interests 5-6 year old boys and girls. I want my students to enjoy reading and learn from books!
This project will get books into the hands of young people.
It will give them a new way of learning things other than TV and computers. By Dr. Seuss...The more you read, the more things you will know. The more things you learn, the more places you'll go.
