My Students
Remember the time you were so proud of yourself because all of sudden you could read all the words in a book! That's exactly how I want to see my students when they read a book. I want to cheer them on for applying the reading strategies and recognizing all their sight words.
I have a group of energetic first graders that really enjoy reading.
Many students in my class don't have books at home and are ecstatic when they go to the library to check some out. Some of the books in my classroom can be a little hard for them during this time of year when they are still learning those difficult sight words. We practice our sight words daily through small group and during centers. I am introducing new word families daily and they get excited when they find part of that word family in their book.
My Project
I am requesting Beat the Clock! Sight-Word Practice Boards, Lakeshore Word Family Readers, Nursery Rhyme Readers, one Roll-A-Word Dice Tub, and 6-Scene Sequencing Cards.
After introducing a word family we will use the sight word activities in small group to help build words and then they will use them during center time to help build words as well as use them in a sentence. The students will read Nursery Rhyme Readers to reinforce the lesson and make sure they understand the concept.
My project will make a difference in the classroom by allowing the students to read leveled books that reinforce the skill taught.
It will also be on their level where they can decode and use other reading strategies. The sight word activities will help build fluency and make it more exciting then just using flashcards.
