My students have little to no access to the Internet, computers, or technology outside of the classroom. I want my students to be able to learn basic typing skills, Google Docs skills, and how to research history projects online.
My students all live in the inner city of St.
Louis and about 98% of them receive free breakfast and lunch. It is a real struggle to keep the students at an 85% attendance rate. My students have little to no access to technology and I would like to change that. My students are hungry for knowledge and the ability to better themselves so that they can leave the inner city, go on to high school and then maybe college.
My Project
I am requesting seven Chromebooks for our class. The students will learn basic typing skills, how to create Google Docs, make slide presentations, and learn how to write research and history papers. Students will be able to drag and drop images, and cite sources. Students will also learn how to use Google Classroom and will be better prepared for high school after completing these projects in my classroom with the help of a Chromebook.
This project will change my students lives by giving them access to current technology and by providing the perfect 1:1 environment for learning.
Students will be able to do projects that involve using the internet, where as before, they could not because they did not have online access at home. Students will be at the same technological level as the more privileged schools in St. Louis.
