I have worked in education for 37 years and realize that most of our 8th grade student going into high school are not prepared to deal with all the decisions they are having to make. I want to educate them on the choices in high school,
My students are live in a rural area and many have never been exposed to life outside of their immediate area.
Today's students are being asked to start making "life decisions" earlier and earlier and many do not have the information necessary to make decisions good ones. Heads Up 8th Grade introduces them to things about high school that will effect the rest of their life. Things like GPA, ACT and Career Exploration and Possibilities. They need to see that the life they have now does not have to determine their future. It is entirely THEIR CHOICE. I have always said that to make the best choices one needs as much information as possible. That is what I want to give my students, INFORMATION, KNOWLEDGE AND CHOICES.
My Project
In a nut shell, I want to better prepare my students for the mountains of choices they will be facing in the upcoming years that will make or break their future. I know at the Middle School level it is difficult to get our students to look beyond the next weekend, but like it or not, they are going to making life decisions very soon that will effect the rest of their life. This book puts the information in a format that is easily understood by middle school age students, which I have to say, is a find. The main reason I am asking for help is I want my students to be able to keep the book so they can hopefully refer back to it when the time of decision making it upon them. I believe that 5 dollars is a bargain to invest in not only our students future, but our community and countries future as well.
As you may or may not know, educational funding it minimal at best and when something comes along that is outside the regular curriculum, many times the funding just is not there.
That is when educators have to get creative and not be afraid to ask for help. It is places like Donors Choose that can help fill in the gaps when necessary and as a veteran educator of 37 years, I thank you for your support and help!!!!
