"Technology can become the “wings” that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before—if we will allow it." Jenny Arledge
Technology helps provide a foundation to encourage children to want to learn and push themselves further than they ever thought possible!
My students are 21 of the most eager, excited, compassionate first graders I have ever met.
They are constantly setting goals for themselves and become incredibly excited when they have achieved a goal.
Our school is a suburban school located in a high-poverty area. Our student population comprises of students from kindergarten to Grade 4 and over 60% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Technology is a major driving force in education and 1st grade has been fortunate to have had two Chrome Carts purchased for student use. The problem is two entire classrooms must shared the cart, which often poses a problem when both teachers have planned to use student technology in the lessons.
Having two additional Chromebooks, would allow me to have some extra devices in my room for students to use at any given time.
My Project
My classroom utilizes many online resources to enhance and supplement classroom instruction. During small-group reading time, I utilize a leveled reading resource called RAZ-Kids, that allow me to assign leveled books to groups and/or individual students to read. We also subscribe to AR (Accelerate Reader) for students individually set reading goals but reading books at their level and taking quizzes to earn points. We also use Smarty-Ants to supplement daily phonics instruction, as well as the online component that is associated with our math series.
I also envision my 1st graders using their Chromebooks to learn how to create written pieces and presentations using Google Drive and Google Docs, as well as learning how to appropriately use the Internet to help with research.
Many times, I have students who have finished work early and would like to use a device for any various reason.
By receiving two additional Chromebooks and licenses for our classroom, the impact on student learning with be significant.
The two devices will always stay in our classroom and we be available for student use when needed, especially when the cart is not available.
My students are so excited to be able to use technology and many times they are ready to practice a skill or create something and a device is not available. Thank you so much for donating to our project.
