We need a 3-D printer and filament to allow for more authentic exploration of objects that may not be readily available to education institutions, including animal anatomies.
My students Sam, Logan, and Eve are excited to begin using a 3-D printer for the first time. This is something that is not available within our community, so many students would be benefiting for the first time.
The students developed this project idea by searching online for ideas on how to make models of animal anatomy, without actually purchasing preserved items. Students wanted to purchase something cost productive which would last longer than one lab experience.
Students will be given the opportunity to increase their technology use by having the option to create and run the 3-D printer, and they will be given the work on their team building skills while working with the 3-D printer. Students will be able to produce models of organs for animal science class, and small scale 3-D shop project models for construction class.
In Their Own Words
The goal of this project is to become more technology interactive within the classroom, and allow our creativity to shine through with a 3-D printer that will allow us to "print" whatever our thinking power takes us to.
We will help take the lead by researching how to use 3-D printers, and all the opportunities that come with using a 3-D printer. We will then student-lead our classroom in organizing ideas and using the printer.
This project is important to our school community because it is something that our school is not familiar with. This project allows for us students (and even other teachers) to become more technologically advanced and use tools that have not been used in our school before. The problem this printer will solve is printing models that would not otherwise be available for our classroom to use (models of organs, etc.).
