Our typical day includes students working on laptop computers or desktop computers. Students are constantly working on on-line reading and math programs. They also take online testing throughout the year. My goal this school year is to integrate technology more into my classroom!
Our elementary school is wonderful.
The students that are in our school are some of the most caring and appreciative students I've ever met. Students are quick to thank teachers and staff members for all of their hard work and dedication to being teachers. The students in my classroom love school and love learning. The students have a strong desire to use the computers to build their knowledge. If students are asked to do an assignment, most of my lower performing and unmotivated students do better on a computer. Hopefully with new headphones, students will be able to do more work on the computer. Having headphones will allow other students to continue to work while there are still students on the computer.
My Project
Our school only provides three headphones per classroom. Since we have three computers in our classroom, the headphones stay in those computers. However, when we are able to borrow laptops from the grade level laptop cart, it would be nice to actually use them. Students would be allowed to use the computers for reading and math assignments instead of just typing on them. Currently, we only have three computers with headphones. That means when it's time for students to get on the computer for reading programs or math games, we have only three students at a time able to participate due to the lack of headphones. If we had more headphones, all students would be able to use the computers at the same time. Each student will be responsible for their own headphones. Therefore, I will be able to monitor who is responsible for lost or misplaced headphones.
Unfortunately, most of the students in my classroom do not have the privilege of having a computer at home.
Therefore, the students are unable to experience online educational games. Students are only given the chance to participate on those websites at school. However, due to the lack of headphones, students are only able to get on for about 15 minutes a week. The issue isn't a lack of computer usage; it's a lack of headphones.
