My students have an hour and a half reading block throughout the day. The students can read independently or reading on a computer program. Students usually always want to read on the computer. The computer programs allow students to listen to reading while reading along.
My students are located in a Title 1 school.
The students in my classroom are very diverse. Most of the students come from low-income homes. Several of my students do not have the privilege to use technology at home and strive to use it in the classroom. When given the opportunity, all students want to use the computer to read. My students are very appreciative with the technology that we have, which is only 4 desktop computers for 18 students. However, if given the opportunity to have Kindle Fires, more students would be able to read using technology and their love for reading would continue to improve!
My Project
My reading block is broke into four reading stations. Students can read with me at the back table, independently read, get on the computer and read, or work on independent reading. They are to do these assignments after every assignment. Most of the students are very excited to work on the computers to read. When the students are on the computer, they are actively engaged and do not want to get up from the computer. I'm confident that if the students were given Kindle Fires as a rotation, they would be very grateful and very interested in their reading.

Students would be very excited to be able to use technology to read. They look forward to using computers on a daily basis to read. Hopefully, with Kindle Fires I will have more students able to use technology at a time. This will allow for integrating technology more in my classroom and make my students thrilled!
