Shelton, Macy, Owen, Jyoti, Nakia, Adam, Jacearre, De'Sauni, Jeremiah, JahTae, Ashley, and Kiamonie are excited to create a clothes closet for students in need at our school. Already this year, many student in our school are in situations where they need clothing.
Our students saw that some of their peers do not have enough clothes to wear to school. They decided to create a clothes closet to store donations so that clothing in a variety of sizes will be available when a student is in need. They also want to get new items, such as socks and underwear, that they cannot collect donations of used items for.
I have already seen my students developing more empathy as a result of working on this project proposal. They are becoming more sensitive to the needs of those students who are not having their basic needs met. They are also developing teamwork skills by working together to decide what items to order for the closet and setting it up.
In Their Own Words
We have children in our class and school who don't have enough clothes to wear to school. With this clothing closet, the kids will be able to get the clothes they need and they will be in their size. Studies have shown that students perform better when they are wearing something they feel confident in. When students wear the same set of clothes every day, it is hard to feel confident. This will help students feel good inside and out.
To help with the clothing closet project, we can make signs to put up around the school. The signs would tell people about the project so that they bring the clothes and donate them. This way we will get as many donations as possible. We will also write an announcement for the principal to make every morning that tells everyone about the project and how they can donate clothes.
This project is important because we think that everyone deserves to have clothes. Everyone needs clothes to be comfortable during all the seasons because you can't just wear the same clothes for every weather. Some students have lost everything in fires and being able to help them out in any way we can would be great.
