My students need supply bins filled with pencils, paper, crayons, play doh, scissors, and glue sticks to get ready to enter Kindergarten with excitement.
"Education is the most powerful tool we can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela
Our school is a low-income school where about 90% of our students are on the free or reduced lunch program.
My students are eager to learn despite the hard circumstances they face in their everyday lives. Our school provides a loving, safe and consistent place for them to learn with a focus on relationships.
My Project
Each year we screen kindergarten students prior to the new school year. We want to put academic supplies into their little hands to prepare them for entering school. After completing their screening, each student would be given a kit that includes scissors, glue stick, pencils, writing tablet, and early learning activities to have at home.
Many of our students do not attend preschool.
By having these kits at home they will have the supplies necessary to complete early learning activities at home prior to entering kindergarten. Learning to use scissors and glue and hold a pencil are necessary skills to help students be successful in kindergarten.
