Funded Dec 1, 2023The items we received for our classroom have already gotten so much use! My students and I were so excited to receive all the new books for our classroom library as well as the mini clocks for our telling time unit.
The books have been amazing to have in our classroom library. I have been able to use some for read alouds to supplement some of our Social Emotional Learning lessons (for example, "Bye-Bye Bully" and "It's OK to be Different" were both great books to go along with class discussions). Others have been high interest books for my students during independent reading time (such as "Sports Biographies for Kids").
The mini clocks really enhanced my teaching during our telling time unit. My students were able to manipulate their clocks and have that hands-on experience while learning how to tell time.
I am excited to have these materials in my classroom for years to come. Thank you again!”

Funded Aug 15, 2023Thank you so much for helping provide my students with these Scholastic News Magazines this past year! This is my favorite outside resource to use in my classroom. The topics are relevant, interesting, and engaging to my 2nd grade students.
I use this resource on a weekly basis with my readers who are approaching or at benchmark. I love the online components: we always watch an introduction video and I am able to pull various assignments from the website for each issue. We usually read the magazine together, stopping to discuss whatever comprehension skill goes with that week's issue. Students are then given an assignment to complete where they must use the text to find evidence for their answers. My students love being able to use a highlighter to mark their evidence! The comprehension skills change from issue to issue so I am able to choose issues that hopefully correlate with what we are doing during our whole group core reading instruction. Thank you again for your support!”

Let's Get Creative!
Funded Sep 26, 2022Thank you so much for donating to this project for my classroom. It was so exciting to get all these new art supplies! In our district, we are provided with only basic art supplies (construction paper and basic colors of paint). It was so nice to have additional art supplies, like watercolors, mosaic paper squares, glitter, wiggly eyes, and pom poms. It was also so wonderful being able to replace falling apart paint brushes that have been in my classroom for 15+ years.
My students were so happy and thrilled to be able to do art projects that involved more than just construction paper and their crayons. My favorite project was creating a spring painting that was a field of flowers with mountains in the background. We were able to use our new paints and brushes to create this artwork and then display it in the hallway for all to see.
Again, thank you for your generous donation! It was greatly appreciated!”

Funded Jan 18, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation and helping to purchase all these amazing books for our classroom library!!
I have such a diverse class of students who come from different backgrounds, celebrate different holidays, and have different interests. The books we received for our classroom library provide so many different topics and types of books for my students. They have loved reading all the wonderful books! It's been fun seeing my students read books with characters that look like themselves. It's also been fun seeing my students read books with characters that look like their friends.
Students have been reading these books during their independent reading time. I've also been able to use some of them as read alouds for our Social Emotional Learning time in class. As we come to the end of the school year, I am already thinking about how I can use these books as read alouds next year, in addition to my students continuing to use them for independent reading. Thank you again!!!”

Funded Sep 1, 2021Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom project! We love getting the new issues each month and seeing what the fun and interesting topics are!
In my classroom, our reading block begins with 40 minutes of small group instruction. When students are not meeting with me (or my assistant), they are working independently on different activities. They might be working on comprehension skills on the computer, reading books from our classroom library, working on phonics skills, or reading their Scholastic News magazines.
I love that students at all different reading levels in my classroom are able to enjoy the magazine. I'm able to print activities from the Scholastic website to go along with each issue. Students are able to read the magazine and then complete different comprehension activities.
My students love the various topics! They are so interesting and give them a variety of things to learn about! Some of our favorites this year have been "The Playground Problem" and "Busy, Busy Bat". We are excited to read about Martin Luther King, Jr. this week!
Thank you again for donating to our classroom!”

Summer Sunshine for Soaring into Third Grade!
Funded Jun 3, 2020Thank you so much for donating to our classroom project. Because of COVID, my students finished the 2019-20 school year virtually. While we still had meaningful instruction, it just wasn't the same as being in person.
These workbooks provided activities for my students to not only review what they'd learned in second grade, but also help prepare them for third grade. I loved being able to provide my students with a workbook that had activities that were presented in a fun and engaging way.
I received feedback from parents that their child loved the activities! I had students who were working on them as soon as school ended for the summer. I really appreciate your donations and help in getting these books into the hands of my students! Thank you again!!”

Time For A Cozy Classroom Rug!
Funded Aug 14, 2019We love our cozy classroom rug!! This is probably one of the most used things in our classroom! We use it for whole group lessons/activities at least once a day. When we do math rotations, my students use the rug for our partner games station. And throughout the day, you can regularly find students laying on the rug and reading a good book.
One of my favorite parts of the day is when we do our Mindful Moment. After recess and lunch, we take a few minutes to regroup, focus on our breathing and prepare ourselves for the rest of our afternoon of learning. The rug is perfect for this time. Students are able to sit in their own space and really work on focusing without distractions.
It's so great having this rug in our classroom and I can't remember what we did in our classroom without it! Thank you so much for your support for our classroom!”
