  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded May 24, 2024

Thank you all so much for your generous donations. I'm so excited that my project got fully funded. I can't wait to start the school year with brand new headphones and won't have to have students borrow each other's or search through a bin where some work and others don't. You have made the start to my school year so exciting and I appreciate all your donations!”

  • Flexing and Supplies

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thanks to your generous donations we were able to have all we needed to start the school year. It is always nice to start the year with fresh materials and a new group of students. My students have enjoyed using the wobble chairs when they come to work with me at the small group table or as an alternative seat off of the carpet.

My students have been actively using all of the post it notes to write about their reading. Most recently they have been using them to record research notes for our upcoming science fair. The students use the pencils daily and have taken such great care of them!

At the beginning of the year I was also able to provide students with brand new scissors for each table group. We have also used tape for various craft projects or STEM projects. Thank you so much for supporting my idea and public schools!”

  • Optimizing Our Opinions

    Funded Jan 12, 2023

Thank you all for your generous donations. We have been able to use the books purchased through this project to optimize our opinion writing. I used them as mentor texts while teaching how to write an opinion paper. Students also used these texts for independent reading or to hunt for specific text features of opinion writing. These books were used both with last year's class and this years.

I had one student who truly enjoyed the book 'Animals Nobody Loves' with writing his opinion about it but also used the book with our informative writing unit as well.

I am so grateful for your donations that brought opinion mentor texts into our classroom. I am so honored that you supported my vision as well as public schools!”

  • New School, New Materials

    Funded Jul 13, 2022

You have no idea what your generosity means to myself and my classroom. Because of your generous donation I was able to get supplies that my students were able to use throughout the school year. We were able to use markers throughout the entire school year to color in our work and create masterpieces in art.

Students were able to start the year with brand new clipboards. They would often use these clipboards during recess to work on passion projects. For example, a team of 4 students were working on a book in which they created the characters, plot and illustrations, having the clipboards allowed them to continue working on it in their free time.

We appreciate your donation beyond words and loved creating classroom memories with all the donated items!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Webb

  • Read Alouds and Student Identities

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thanks to your generous donation my students have been able to see themselves in our read aloud books. We had such a great time relating to the characters as well as learning something new about a culture we were not familiar with. I used these books as read aloud books in our classroom. While reading these books, I often would stop to ask students questions about how the character might be feeling and practiced predicting what might happen next in the story. These are all skills first graders need in order to build their comprehension skills.

During reading workshop students get their own book bins with books that they've picked out for themselves. They read independently and also with a partner towards the end of our reading time. I also let students use the read aloud books during independent reading time to retell the story to their partner.

This year I had students of color who were really able to see themselves in the books I read to them. This motivates them to be readers for life!”

  • Marvelous Materials for First

    Funded Jul 8, 2020

Thanks to your generous donations my students were able to start the year with the materials they needed while in distance learning and in person this past school year. During math we were able to use the counters to help show different parts of numbers. This helped me differentiate for the students who needed that visual support during math lessons. Students used whiteboard erasers and dry erase pens EVERYDAY in our classroom. It made it so easy to replace any dried out dry erase pens and students loved having their own eraser with their number on it. The material that was used a lot were the headphones. Since students all have their own Chromebook, headphones were an essential part of working quietly on their own.

The students were so surprised and grateful for the materials that we received. They couldn't believe how many new supplies they got to start the school year. Families were also grateful to not have to provide so much for their child.

These donations will keep providing students with the tools they need in math and throughout the school year. We appreciate your generous donation and enjoyed them all year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Webb

  • Comfort Books

    Funded May 11, 2020

As a first grade teacher, this is the time of year where my readers start to soar as they pick up early chapter books. Many of the books left in my classroom have creased spines because they were read and enjoyed over and over again. The books purchased through donors choose will look this same way by the end of summer. I wanted to give my students some books that we have read in class together to give them comfort in knowing I am thinking of them during this time as well as give them something to practice their reading skills in. I know their faces will light up when they get 5 new books that they get to keep! I appreciate you taking time to donate to my project. You have helped 19 first graders soar even higher in their reading journey this year. You have also made this teacher feel so lucky to be giving the gift of reading to her students.”

  • Rooted in Reading and Phonics!

    Funded Jun 22, 2019

Thanks to you my students were able to start the year with the materials needed for success in our new reading and phonics curriculum. My students loved using the unifix cubes to make words with the letters I wrote on them. Another resource that kept us organized in our phonics curriculum were the Sterlite stacking baskets where we kept our whiteboards, whiteboard pens and any materials needed to complete our phonics lesson. My favorite resource I used from this donation were the Mead small notebooks. I was able to use these to capture the thoughts of 19 poets. I had my students take these mini notebooks home and to look at their everyday lives with poet's eyes. During our Word Detectives unit my students were able to use the magnify glasses and finger lights to look more closely at words in their books. These are just a few examples of how we were able to utilize the materials purchased. We are all so grateful for you contribution to this project and I can't wait to use these materials with future first graders!”

  • Diverse Books for Avid Readers

    Funded Jun 25, 2019

We are grateful for your generous donations towards our project, Diverse Books for Avid Readers. Because of your donation we were able to get diverse read aloud books, leveled books for our library, and TIME for Kids.

During our independent reading time my students need to have access to books at their level. Many of my students coming into first grade are reading below grade level and I need to give them books that they feel confident reading.

We also have read aloud time after our phonics workshop. I wanted to read to my students books where they see their own reflection. Many of the books I chose reflect our classroom culture. After reading our read aloud books students hands shoot up as students crave to put these books back into their book bins to read during independent reading time.

I appreciate all the donations towards this project because it has brought my class access to books at their level, learning about science through text and reading diverse books during our read aloud time that reflect the students in my classroom. Thank you!”

    Mrs. Webb

I'm diving into a new endeavor! For the past six years I taught at in a ranching community teaching grades K-2. This year I am teaching first grade at a Title 1 school. In the past I only had to plan for 5 students, this year I have to plan for 20 plus students. I'm very excited for this change but this will be my first time in my own classroom. That means providing tools and essential classroom items for my students. Thank you in advance for your contribution to help my first grade class and school year run smoothly!
