  • INKspire School Spirit (Part Two)

    Funded Jul 18, 2017

We are ecstatic that we finally have a complete set of 20 poster ink pods for our school and it is all thanks to you! When I notified the students over summer that we would start the new school year in style, they were already thinking of backdrops for homecoming and signs for assemblies and clearing out a cabinet to make way for the goods! Your generous contributions will help ignite school pride by showcasing events and activities throughout the school with these beautiful new supplies. We are always touched by the kindness of friends, family, acquaintances, coworkers, and even perfect strangers who reach into their bank accounts and fund our projects. We appreciate you so much. You rock! ♥”

  • (INK)spire School Spirit

    Funded Mar 24, 2017

I knew accepting the job of Assistant ASB Director might be daunting at times, but I didn't realize that many of the obstacles would concern having general supplies for our every day duties. Working with ink pods that were between 15-20 years old was difficult for my kids, but thanks to your generosity, they have eight beautiful new inkpods and ink refills to help advertise all of the events on campus. Our first mass poster making event was making Thank You signs for all of the administrative professionals on campus. They were so complimentary of how awesome the signs looked and my ASB students were beaming with pride. This all happened because of your donations. My students are so happy to be able to put out work that shows their artistic abilities and inspires school spirit by promoting campus events in fun, attractive ways. We appreciate each of you. You rock...HARD!”

  • Now Read This! Help Inspire Students to Read More!

    Funded Oct 21, 2015

Every time I post a project on donorschoose.org I am reminded of just how much people, often strangers, care about public education and my students' success. The books you helped purchase for my classroom library have been in constant rotation since they arrived. For several of the books there is even a waiting list. It warms my heart to know that you have helped me inspire my students to fall in love with reading again, especially since so much of student life is enveloped by technology. My senior writing classes, which are full of reluctant readers and writers, have been checking out books and coming prepared for Silent Reading Fridays. Last week, they even asked for five more minutes of SSR. THEY ASKED FOR MORE TIME TO READ! (Insert happy face emoji here!)

Right now my 10th grade students are working on Multicultural Book Projects for their final. Many of the books they chose came from your generous donations. Students are reading about characters (and real life people) from other cultures, ethnicities, and religions, and are making connections to the struggles, obstacles, and triumphs in their own lives. My hope is that this type of reading and project based learning broadens their world view and helps foster more empathetic human beings.

Thank you again for your support! You rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lockhart

  • Library Lifeline: Rescue Teen Reading

    Funded Dec 17, 2013

Once again I am in awe of how much support my students and I receive from donors like you. It means so much to know that people care about public education and see the value in fostering a love of reading in students of all ages. Often students are so focused on "the next step" in their education and choosing the most demanding classes and earning solid scores on the SAT and the ACT that they forget the love of reading they had as elementary students. Your donation gives them the opportunity to remember how much fun it is to lose themselves in literature.

Our bookshelf is the envy of the campus because of all the modern titles we now have. I didn't even have a chance to cover and label them before students were waiting to check them out. As an English teacher, it is particularly exciting to see kids put their names on a waiting list for when certain titles are returned.

I'm looking forward to grading their self-selected independent book projects because I know they had a plethora of interesting options because of your donations. Thanks so much! You rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lockhart

  • Reality Bytes: TechKNOWlogy is Power

    Funded Oct 22, 2013

I should no longer be surprised at the kindness and generosity of friends, family, and even perfect strangers, but I still am taken aback when a project funds, especially this quickly. There are many amazing people and companies who support public education and I consider each of you as part of that dedicated group.

My students are thoroughly excited about having access to a laptop in the classroom. If I have a student who is ready to type his or her essay, I don't have to send that student to another classroom or hope that a teacher in the media center has a computer available. Now I can just have them sit at a desk and type away! They can also come in and print on our wireless printer with little or no disruption to the class. Having a laptop is very useful!

My students will be using the laptop on a daily basis for essays, projects, and homework assignments. They can also use it to check their grades for all of their classes online. Since many of my students do not have computers or printers in their homes, this donation is significant to their academic achievement.

The seniors, in particular, are elated because many of them have a zero period and are not able to access the media center before school and now they can come to my class to research colleges, scholarships and job opportunities, as well as complete online college and job applications, type their resumes, and send scholarship essays and applications through their email accounts. This donation is very much appreciated. On behalf of my students...You rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lockhart

I should no longer be surprised at the kindness and generosity of friends, family, and even perfect strangers, but I still am taken aback when a project funds, especially this quickly. There are many amazing people who support public education and I consider each of you as part of that dedicated group.

My students are thoroughly excited about using the new wireless printer. They did not believe it when I said that the project funded and their disbelief heightened when a few days later the printer arrived! They began using it as soon as the district allowed us to have wireless access (which took longer than the actual funding of the project)!

My students will be using the printer on a daily basis for essays, projects, and homework assignments. Since many of my students do not have computers or printers in their homes, this donation is significant to their academic achievement. The seniors, in particular, are elated because many of them have a zero period and are not able to access the library/media center before school and now they can come to my class and print away. Hopefully this trend will continue and they will all be able to print their assignments and turn them in on time, which will directly impact their grades.”

  • Library Lifeline: The Rescue Continues

    Funded Jan 1, 2013

I am sincerely grateful to each of you for your contributions to "Library Lifeline: The Rescue Continues." The current state of public education and politics seems to focus on students filling in bubbles on a test with proficiency. Overcrowded classrooms and test performance overshadows the love of learning, and librarians and reading have been designated as luxuries. These are the reasons I posted my projects in the first place. These are the reasons your donations are so appreciated.

You have shown my students that people, even perfect strangers, care about them and their success in schools. We were all moved by your genorosity. The books have been in regular rotation, which is so exciting for me. Now when they are finished with work in my class they immediately pull out their books and read...no prompting necessary! My kids are not just reading the books, but they are TALKING about the books and RECOMMENDING the books to their friends. Students who aren't even in my class are introducing themselves to me and checking out books from our newly stocked class library and I love it! You absolutely rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lockhart

  • Library Lifeline: Resuscitating Teen Reading

    Funded Dec 23, 2012

I am sincerely grateful to each of you for your contributions to "Library Lifeline: Resuscitating Teen Reading." In these tough economic times filled with budget cuts, our public school students have really felt the damaging effects of government priorities. It seems our students are not necessarily one of them. Classrooms are filled with 40 students, test performance overshadows the love of learning, and librarians and reading have been designated as luxuries. These are the reasons I posted the project in the first place. These are the reasons your donations are so appreciated.

My students could not believe that strangers would contribute to their classroom. They even thought I had been "scammed" when I told them the project was funded within a week. When the first shipment of books came they begged me to open it in front of class. Every single book was checked out on that first day. They all haggled over who is going to read which book next. They are recommending books to their friends outside of class who ask to check out our classroom books! There is a waiting list for several titles and many students are now on their third or fourth book. It is such a joy to see their interests sparked by the books you enabled us to purchase. You rock!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lockhart
