Apple TV for Konow's Kiddos
Funded May 30, 2015Thank you so much for your donation that helped fund an Apple TV and wireless keyboard for my classroom. My students were so excited to be able to see our iPads projected on our Promethean board! They were even more excited to see themselves when I used our Apple TV to show pictures from my iPhone that I take of our learning each day.
I frequently find new apps for my classroom iPads and in the past have struggled to teach my students how to use the apps. Now, I can model using apps appropriately through the use of the Apple TV. My students can watch on the big screen as I manipulate the apps, modeling how to use different features of our new apps. My students have also been able to use the Apple TV to project some of the learning they have done on our classroom iPads. They even have shown presentations they created on apps like shadow puppet, Toontastic, Scribble Me and Sock Puppets. My students are so excited to see their work on the Promethean board.
The sharing of student work on iPads has brought a new type of learning to the technology piece in our classroom: students as teachers! Before having our Apple TV, students used the iPads alone or with a partner for an allotted amount of time and oftentimes never thought again about what they were making, creating or learning. With this new opportunity for students to show their iPad creations and learning, students are even more engaged with the iPad as they want to show off their learning and teach their peers.
Again, thank you for your donation, it truly has brought our iPads to a new level of learning!”

iPads for Konow's Kiddos
Funded Jan 8, 2015Words cannot express how thankful my class is for the iPads your donations helped us to have in our classroom. My students were ecstatic on the day they arrived and wished that I could put apps onto them immediately. I spent that evening adding apps for math, writing, spelling, word work and more so we could use them the very next day! We spent the first few days rotating the iPads between partnerships so everyone would have a chance every day to try out the apps.
We are using the iPads a lot during our reading block. Students can access various reading apps and especially love the apps we use for "Word Work" when they practice their spelling words. My students are also getting ready to use a few presentation apps to share their How-To Nonfiction stories. Finally, they also have loved playing on some fun (but educational) and art based apps during free time and indoor recess during this long winter.
I feel using the iPads has made me more resourceful in terms of technology. Since we have had the iPads in our classroom, I am constantly looking for new apps to engage students in learning. My students are also becoming better and better with technology as I download apps and ask them to try them out. My students are also much more excited and engaged in their writing knowing that they will have the opportunity to "publish" their work using an iPad.
I am so thankful and so are my second grade kiddos! We are so lucky to have had donors like you to add technology into our classroom!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Konow
