Giving First Graders Roots and Wings
Funded Jan 22, 2015My students were very excited when the projector arrived in our classroom. They were excited to use the software available as part of our Reading Program and came to rely on the content displayed on the projector. For example, team work instructions were easy to see and refer to, enabling the students to follow directions easily. When completing writing activities, it enabled us to complete graphic organizers together and then the completed organizer was available for easy reference during the writing process, as well. It also gave the students the ability to watch short video clips that modeled the cooperative learning strategies and reading strategies used school-wide. The videos were engaging and reinforced instruction already given in the classroom. The projector was also used for short, brain-break videos that give the students an opportunity to get out of their seats and move around a bit through dance and exercise, enabling them to then focus more easily on classroom tasks following the break.
The projector use increased student engagement, and therefore their learning. Since using the projector, student scores in our classroom showed improvement at a greater rate when compared to students whose classrooms were not using the same technology and software.
Your donations for this project are greatly appreciated! Your donation made a difference to the students in Room 23. For that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
With gratitude,
