Leaping Into Learning
Funded Jan 15, 2015Thank you all so MUCH!! I am so excited and can't wait to tell the class. Our current Leapster TV is from the early 90's and it is starting to not work. We had 4 games that would still work in it and we are down to two! The kids LOVE this game and it is so full of learning material.I can't wait to share with you are pictures!!! When the students are enjoying this I will be able to work with small groups and better build their reading skills. It gives us the best in both areas! This is all possible thanks to your generosity!!”

QRs for Reading and Math
Funded Dec 17, 2012Thank you so much for helping to purchase iPods for our classroom. We have used them for literacy and math stations every day! We use them for games and to scan QR codes for hidden messages. We have written the room with them by walking around scanning codes and writing the word that they see. This is building their fluency in reading the high frequency words we have been practicing.
The iPods are motivational, the students love using them and work for the chance to get to. They are also fun but educational which helps the students remained engaged during a very independent time.
Thanks,
Mrs. G”

Listening in the Loft
Funded Nov 13, 2012I cannot begin to thank everyone that donated to our classroom enough. We started the year with a barely working tape player and a box full of tapes. The books and tapes were not all together or all there. Most of the tapes were damaged and did not play all the way through. The students still loved this station. They loved following along in the books and looking at the pictures while listening to someone read. When I shared with them what you had donated to us they were so excited. They asked everyday for updates. On the day our first box of books and Cd's arrived the students could not wait for me to get them out and in our station. Their eyes lit up when we learned how to work the CD player and they heard their first book. It was clear and didn't skip parts or "talk like chipmunks". They were begging for their turn at the listening station, wanting to do more than two a day to hurry their chance to get there. It became my most popular literacy station, this is over computer and Leapsters. As I watched some students in the center a day ago I heard them talking, saying things like: "I just heard our popcorn work, look there it is on the page", "We are here on this page because that word starts with a /k/ sound", "This story has similar characters to our reading story". I can hear the learning every day. Thank you for helping my students learn.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Kia Motors America and one other donor.Leaping into Letters!
Funded Dec 16, 2011Your donation of Leapster Explorers to our classroom has been incredible. The students love playing these reading and math games. They have no idea the skills they are using to play these "video" games. They are learning without realizing it. Some of my students have never had the opportunity to play a handheld game before, but they see others playing all the time. Having these systems in our classroom allows them to experience something their parents have not be able to provide in an educational manor. We use these everyday during literacy center time. The students also have these as an option during indoor recess. This is the time when board games and building blocks come out, yet I have students choosing these educational games to play! I look forward to continuing to grow our Leapster Center, Thank you for getting it started!”
