Classroom Costumes

Funded Nov 18, 2013

Thank you so much for the financial support you provided to make this project possible. I was able to get enough Union and Confederate hats for every child, in addition to Union and Confederate officer costumes and an Abe Lincoln costume. Students were very excited about these costumes and the re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. We were able to go out on our campus and re-enact this battle. The costumes, along with other props, helped to set the stage for a successful lesson. Students were able to experience a battle in a way that had never previously had the opportunity to do. One student dressed as Abraham Lincoln and recited the Gettysburg Address on the battlefield after the re-enactment.

I hope to use these costumes for many years to come. It is my hope to instill in my students a love for learning and one way to do so is by making learning fun. These costumes allowed for that "fun" to be more possible. My students were very grateful for the opportunity, many asking if we could re-enact other battles as well.

I appreciate your support in enhancing student engagement and contributing to a successful lesson!”

With gratitude,

Mr. Piedra
