  • Theatre Tape for Thespians and Techies

    Funded Dec 2, 2024

This Spring has been a whirlwind in the Arrowhead Theatre Department. We have had our All School Play and worked on scenes and monologues in class. We had an amazing cast in our show but this project especially was a help to our Techies. The backstage crew for 12 Hangry Jurors was well equipped with spike tape and with our Gaffer tape for all our innovative connective needs. We were able to perfect the set and hold our floor mics in place perfectly. The tape was key to making our production successful and providing a lifelong memory to our students. Participating in extra curricular theatre is a wonderful experience. I deeply appreciate you helping provide the materials to help make that happen.”

  • Reaching The Write Minds - A Playwriting Workshop

    Funded Sep 28, 2017

This field trip was exactly what these students needed. So much time to be creative and to share their writing can really expand the minds of young people. Being able to sit in a theatre with professional playwright and talk about so many important parts of being a creator made for the perfect learning experience outside of the classroom.

It was also so fun to see students navigating a menu and having an authentic coffee shop experience in a place farther away from their general hangouts. Thank you so much for making this happen.”

    Mr. Brame

  • Reaching the Write Minds 2

    Funded Nov 16, 2016

This project has such a special place in my heart. I love taking students out of the classroom and bringing them into the space that allows creativity to flourish. Sitting in a theatre in the basement of a coffeeshop is the perfect place to let a middle school imagination run wild. The project facilitator was a local playwright and she was top notch. Students wrote and shared their writing with ease and comfort.

The student that really demonstrated the best writing skills on the day of the workshop was a girl who is typically very shy. She used the extended time and unique space given to her to write some incredible characters. She is an example of why this trip so worthwhile.

    Thank you so much.”

  • The Coterie Theatre Presents: The Presidents! (a musical)

    Funded May 25, 2016

This event was amazing. Having a full auditorium of students watching professional theatre on their stage was totally awesome. The actors were fantastic and the set was both simple and inspiring. Having this show at our school really added to our theatre program.

My favorite part of the experience was seeing my drama club kids during their private talk back with the actors, stage manager, and sound/light technician. They were able to ask the kinds of questions and see the theatre professionals as human beings. These connections may allow the students to see themselves as capable of doing theatre beyond school.

Thank you so much for making this happen.”

  • Let the Banner Be Unfurled

    Funded May 18, 2016

    Dear Donors,

This project has been super crazy and also super cool. I had this idea on a whim to make signs that were more inspirational than your typical giant school banners. I am so glad that, with your help, we have been able to share these with kids. We hosted a debate tournament just this last week and the signs were hanging in my room. Two students who have never been to my class before mentioned how cool they thought the signs were. I especially want for students to see themselves as creators of culture. In theatre we are always making it up as we go along. Thank you for helping us share the message with kids each day.”

  • Improvisational Acting Blocks

    Funded Oct 7, 2015

I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. I am floored by your choosing to share in our students lives in this way. I can't say thank you enough. It is fun to know a team of people support your work.

Having these simple tools in the classroom has improved our daily routines in really cool ways. The blocks themselves are really well made and will last for years to come. Now instead of all groups working with the same characters, locations, relationships, and problems, we can individualize and differentiate for each group.

Thanks again for helping make this happen.”

  • Reaching the Write Minds

    Funded Sep 22, 2015

Wow. This was an incredible experience for our students and for myself as an educator. We spent the whole day in creative mode and generated a lot of fabulous plays. The facilitator was a local playwright and actor and he gave a lot of top notch advice. Two of our students were even selected for the prestigious young playwrights roundtable which meets monthly until they graduate high school. This is a life altering experience for those kids and for all of us as we learned that we can create together. Thank you for making this possible. You are the best.”

  • Paint the Forest Green, and the Palace Black - New Paints!

    Funded Jan 29, 2015

There are a few time in the life of a theater teacher that are crazy. The week before the show is one of them. When your paint arrived right on time for our crew to finish up our set it was a tremendous gift indeed. Our stage hands were immediately able to put together the remainder of our costumes and flats that needed a finishing touch. You made it possible for us to have a production with even better paints. Thank you for sharing excellence with our students. It is fun to make theater with kids and know that you are supported by a whole community of people. Thank you.”

  • More Props and Costumes for the Spring Play of our Dreams

    Funded Jan 27, 2015

As a teacher begins the year it is important to reflect on the successes of the previous one. As I think back to the wonderful production that your gift made possible last spring I am overcome with joy and anticipation at what this new year has to offer. The simple costumes and props that you created through your generosity gave the gift of theater to kids. Theater builds confidence and it provides a way for students to connect to education outside the classroom. These activities will prepare them for the future in whatever college or career choice they make. Working together to make art happen is a wonderful experience for young people. This play was even more wonderful because it had the backing and support of this community of donors. Thank you for all that you gave.”

  • Props and Costumes for Our Spring Play!

    Funded Jan 8, 2015

As the school year draws to a close I am able to reflect on the awesomeness that was our Theater program this year. We had an amazing year and the Spring Play was one of the best productions we have ever done. This is due to your generous gifts that helped to raise the production values of our shows. As you know we are a zero budget program so the only funding we have is our annual ticket sales. We had over 400 people come see our show and many mentioned the amazing costumes and props. Thank you for your kindness.”

My students are from a very high needs background but they love to perform. A typical member of my theater program will be an active learner, a natural performer, or even the class clown. When given the opportunity to take the stage they shine. Our school has over 500 students and roughly half will take a theater class over the course of the year. The school has zero budget for arts programs but does support teachers who can work within those terms. We have a thriving program going on its 7th year made possible completely through donations. The students are so grateful to have access to new materials and will make great use of every possible donation.
