Breakout EDU
Funded Jun 6, 2016On the first day of school, my students walked in to see four locked boxes. I told them I had stickers for them, but I had locked them away and I couldn't remember the combinations! The students immediately jumped into action. By the end of the forty-five minutes, all boxes had been opened.
This led to great discussions about struggle, perseverance, growth mindset, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. Students enjoyed the activity and begged for more. Without the materials through DonorsChoose, this would not have been possible.”

Chromebooks For Innovators - Episode II: STEAM Rises
Funded Nov 26, 2015This DonorsChoose project has completed the 1:1 initiative in our classroom and has definitely had a huge impact on our classroom. The pictures I chose illustrate the various changes that have been been made with our Chromebooks. Coding on code.org is now a weekly occurrence, which helps teach critical skills my students will need as they progress through life. There is higher emphasis on the A (Arts) in STEAM. Recently, students engaged in graphic design to develop their one word for the year. They wrote what it meant to them, why they chose it, and how they will achieve it and presented to the class. Furthermore, students wrote, rehearsed, and performed songs (based on popular current songs) about our history content. If we did not have the generous support of you for completing the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, many of these new changes would not have been able to occur. Each student can work at their individual level each and every day. Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to continued engagement and growth from my students!”

This classroom project was brought to life by EMP Museum + Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and 25 other donors.Chromebooks for Mr. B's Innovators!
Funded Aug 16, 2015We have had the Chromebooks in our classroom for about two full weeks now. Wow! What a difference it has made. Prior to this project, the students had access to Chromebooks whenever I could snag the cart. Now they have them whenever they need.
My students love the Chromebooks. They are very appreciative of them and treat them with respect and use them daily. Students love practicing math on our different math websites. They can log on and work together. Reading has become a priority for even the most reluctant readers. With a multitude of websites, students can find books that fit their interests and levels. In social studies, we have been able to explore the state and learn in small groups. Our writing has improved with the ability to revise and collaborate directly in Drive.
The Chromebooks have changed the classroom. I always say technology should augment education and it truly has. Students are instructed on a much more individualized level and do not have to feel ostracized from their peers. I look forward to another project to fully complete the transition to 1:1. Thank you very much for your support.”
