  • reMarkable Speeches and Games for Academic Decathlon

    Funded Sep 25, 2024

Thank you so much again for the generous donation of our e-ink tablet. We just had our first pentathlon practice session and we used the tablet to review scores, disseminate PDFs and visualize paperwork in a way that is more eco friendly and less wasteful. I am in awe of what we could do if all students had an e-ink tablet instead of textbooks to visualize text, fill in PDFs and us educators to grade or mark akin to paper. Without your generosity, we would not have had this opportunity to use this tech, and for that we are very grateful. Thank you so very much again for your continued support and generosity.”

  • More LEGOs for Mental Health and Relaxation

    Funded Nov 2, 2024

Just before we left for Thanksgiving break, we had some downtime in between the end of our marking period and the beginning of the next unit. Nothing got my students more excited than the ability to just hang out in our room, making LEGOs on their lunch period, quietly talking or laughing, joking, enjoying moments that are characteristic of so many of our childhoods. And yet, for many these moments are unique and they're firsts now- thanks to you and your generosity. Thank you so much again for your kindness, your support and your continued commitment to giving our students items that would otherwise be impossible to acquire. Thank you.”

  • LEGO Sets for Mental Health

    Funded Aug 26, 2024

It's hard for me to describe the excitement when students see the LEGO boxes in our classroom. My students are all in high school but there is a palpable call to childhood "easier days" as my kids would say, when it comes to the feeling that building and playing with LEGO's brings back. Whole many of my student share these memories, many have never shared in the joy of building a model with LEGOs. We used these sets in class recently on an off day or a day that needed some resetting and it was fantastic. Students' brains just behave differently when allowed to recharge and take a moment to just focus on something joyful. Thank you for making this possible.”

  • Coding Fun With Drones

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

Thank you so much for making this project possible. While we have not yet made it to the unit in which I envisioned this project for, I and the students very much look forward to building, tinkering and playing with our mini drones. As we get into the more fun stuff of physics (and partially in bio with infectious disease management) second semester, the students will be looking forward to getting their big conceptual hats on and link the big ideas to tangible experiments and experiences, some in the classroom and some outside. As we also look forward to the Hour of Code initiative every spring, this will be a perfect marriage of physics and the physics of flight and coding.

Thank you so so much for making this project possible.”

  • Field Work With FieldKit!

    Funded May 3, 2021

As I write this, we have unfortunately yet to have ventured out to our local watershed for field work this fall. With COVID restrictions still in place for travel, we have been limited to classroom work, as well as simulated data collection using computational models in our classroom. I am however beyond excited at the prospects of us heading back into the field full force in the spring and look forward to reporting back on how we're using our field kits, and especially take advantage of the updated board for the water quality module. Thank you so much again for your generosity.”

  • Learning With Sound! A Shure Thing for All Students!

    Funded Aug 20, 2021

As I begin my trip abroad as a research educator, my students and I began planning for our class in my absence. These plans include video chats, a podcast with students from our class AND my host country, Singapore. I am so excited to be able to do this because of the technology that your generous donation made possible. We will examine environmental education, student issues and build a bridge that highlight student voice, activism and a new sensitivity towards environmental science. I am pumped to see what comes out of our global connection and cannot wait to update you on our final products.”

  • Busy Bees Becoming Basic Beekeepers

    Funded Jul 24, 2021

We are so excited to have gotten this beekeeping project funded. We just received our hive and supplies and we cannot wait to dive into setting it up in the spring and getting our honey flowing. In the meantime, students will examine bee ecology, the basics of beekeeping and the connection of pollinators to agriculture, pollution and terrestrial food production systems. We have several guest speakers lined uf from local partners around urban beekeeping and we look forward to harvesting honey to be given to all of our students and community members. Thank you so much for your generosity and support and we will keep you updated in the spring.”

  • Hybrid Learning For The Win!

    Funded May 24, 2021

We have recently returned to the classroom and yet again facing a wave of students staying at home due to COVID- and still- again facing a round of remote instruction for students who are quarantined. However, because of your generosity I am now able to move around our giant classroom using these mobile wireless microphones and sound just as clear for the students in front of me, as well as the students at home. Unlike before when I practically had to yell to be heard at home, I am now able to hold instruction and conversations in a more seamless and effective way, from groups, to individual answers. Than you so much for your generosity and kindness.”

  • New Books for 2020

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

As we begun to come back to class this past spring, I was so excited to share our resources we received thanks to you- with my students, and in particular with the seniors. Alas, so few decided to embrace hybrid learning, that only a handful returned to in person learning and doing anything as a whole class was harder than anticipated. However, thanks to you- every single senior received one of your books you funded as a graduation gift. They were not only amazed at this gesture, but were also incredibly grateful for your donation, the only reason why we were able to make this happen. Thank you so much for your commitment to our class and to public education and for your continued support.”
