Funding Future Scientists
Funded Nov 1, 2019We recently received the lab safety goggles for our classroom. They arrived at the perfect time; right as we were beginning our unit on chemicals reactions. We started the unit by mixing different chemicals to see the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions. After this, we worked on an engineering project where students had to pretend they were trapped on the top of Mount Washington and they had limited supplies to create hand warmers. Students used their knowledge of exothermic reactions and experimented with conductors and insulators to create a working hand warmer. The safety goggles were essential for this project because students were mixing chemicals together and this kept them safe.
Along with keeping them safe, it makes science more "real". When students put on the safety goggles they said they "felt like real scientists." Just by having the goggles, they became more engaged in the science lesson. As we move into the next unit, on waves, we will continue to be safe and engaged in science, in part to your donation. Thank you again for making my science classroom a safe and inviting environment for all students.”
With gratitude,

The Great Math Race
Funded Feb 22, 2011I want to thank you for your donation to my classroom. I have been using the math games a reward for my students hard work. My students love the quiz show. They are constantly asking to play it. I have also extended the use of the games to apply to my homeroom class. I use them to teach team building skills.
I have begun to use the magnetic manipulatives when working with small groups. It helps the students touch and feel math. It has made math less abstract and made it more concrete.
This would not have been possible without your help. These materials will not only help my class this year, but also for years to come. Thank you again. ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Licciardi
