iPad iWonder

Funded Dec 2, 2013

I can't thank all of you enough for your kind donations. My kids have loved having the iPad Mini in our classroom. They think it is really cool that we are the only class in our school that has one!

I have only begun to dive into the fun and exciting ways to use it. We use it every day for our Reading Wonder's series. One child gets to use it each day to read our text book on it. They are able to listen to the story, take quizzes and tests, answer questions, and play educational games during our reading time. I have also downloaded quite a few math and language review games. They are playing games and not even realizing they are doing more problems than they would do, if they were working on a worksheet or out of the text book.

Every day we ask Siri what the weather is like, to see if we are able to go outside sans coats, or bundled up. We have also used it for indoor recess (it's been REALLY cold here!) my students are motivated to improve their behavior to be able to use the iPad during indoor recess time. It is fun to see them interact and share the iPad.

One of our favorite activities is to use the iPad to ask questions. How do you spell... what does ____ mean... How many ... Siri sometimes likes our questions, but sometimes we have to use the Internet to find our answers. We used it during science to think of a science project to test. Each child got to ask Siri a question about what they were wondering.

We also enjoy playing "Heads Up." It is a game where you have the iPad on your head, and your team mates have to describe the word on your head to you, without saying the word. We brainstormed a huge list of things we have learned so far. I purchased a "Make your own category" set and entered the words in. Now we can play Heads Up as a review game!

Thank you so much for your donations and caring about our future!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Cremer
