  • Let's Share a Good Book!

    Funded Jan 18, 2012

Thank you so much for the class set of books that your donations provided for my students. Before we started reading them, I left them sitting at the front of the room for about a week. The suspense was just too much for them! They were in disbelief that we were going to read a book that was called Loser.

Not only is the book set providing us with reading practice, but we are also learning valuable lessons that deal with the issue of bullying. This gift from you came at a perfect time. The end of third grade is a very transitional time, and the kids are going through a lot of changes. Learning about the life of a boy who is going through a lot of the same problems has been valuable for them.

I cannot thank you enough for the generous donation that you gave to our class. Your gift will touch the lives of many children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Newman

  • Bringing Words to Life with a NOOK Color!

    Funded Sep 19, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donations! It means so much to my class and I to have the Nook Color available in the classroom. The expression on each child's face was priceless when they saw how the Nook worked. They were so excited, and some of them had never seen an e-book. Even more exciting was the reaction that the students gave when they realized it was theirs to use.

Not only are the students going to benefit from becoming familiar with an exciting piece of new technology, but they will also be improving their reading skills as they use the Nook Color. They love the "Read to Me" feature. Your gift to our class means so much, and each child is grateful for everything that you have done.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Newman

  • A Flashy New Look for our Class Listening Nook!

    Funded May 11, 2011

This thank you letter does not begin to express my gratitude to you all for providing my class with materials. I wish you could have seen the way that their eyes lit up when I pulled the materials out of the Donor's Choose box. They felt so special, and asked, "Is this just for our class? Those people bought these just for us?". They couldn't believe it. You have truly touched the lives of the students in my classroom, and for that, I am so grateful. The photos do not even begin to do their true joy and excitement justice.

I also want to let you know that I am deeply appreciative of the gift. I am unable to purchase these kinds of materials for my classroom, and I was so thankful that you all chose my project. The kids love the listening center, and now they have a much larger selection of books to listen to. Thank you again so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Newman

  • We're Hanging on Every Word!

    Funded Dec 15, 2010

I cannot begin to tell you how much my students and I appreciate your donations to our classroom. The materials that you have donated have been so wonderful for the students, and they are so excited when it is their turn to use the listening center. As soon as the box came in the room, their eyes got so big! When they found out that four of them could listen to the same book at the same time, they were ecstatic. They cannot wait to be able to share literature together!

Some of my students are very low-performing, and a few of them do not speak fluent English. I am so thankful for your donation, because these students are being given a greater chance to succeed. They will be able to read chapter books like all their friends, and I am sure that their confidence will improve! Again, thank you so much for all you have done. Pictures do not do justice for how happy the kids were to receive you gifts.

I also want to thank you for allowing me to give materials to the students that they need. I could not have done this without you, and I am so grateful for what you have done. Thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Newman

My third grade students are all from a very rural community. They attend a small Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade school (560 children). A lot of the children have attended the school throughout their entire life. There are not very many transfers in and out of the school, so it is very much a family environment. Many of the students are from low income families, and do not have access to quality books, or any books at all for that matter, save what I have in my classroom. Most of them really enjoy reading, or trying to read. However, they still depend strongly on pictures in stories. I can see them struggling with books on their own. When I read them a read-aloud, they are mesmerized. I can see that with the right tools, these kids would really love reading. The desire is there, but in my classroom, the materials are not. As a second year teacher, I would love to be able to supply the children with as much literacy access as possible.
