This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In second grade at Henderson School we are lucky to have a nice big classroom. I can have different areas for different centers, different subject, and different activities. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of great ways to set the different areas of the room apart. In particular, I need a better area for doing guided reading. In the past we have had guided reading on the carpet, but that doesn't allow other kids to be browsing the library while we do our reading.
One of the best ways to do guided reading is at a kidney table. This allows the teacher to never be more than a couple feet away from any of the students in the guided reading group, while still allowing enough room for each kid to work and read.
Kidney tables are also great for conferencing with kids and working in other small groups.
Help me give my kids great guided reading, and more!
