Students in schools today are becoming more and more overweight due to lifestyles and food choices available to them. Too many children are content just sitting on the couch and playing video or computer games. This proposal is for a game Dance Dance Revolution which is played with the PlayStation or XBOX game that most of them have as well as their television. It is a new craze which is really catching on with school age kids....both boys as well as girls. We teach in a K-5 rural school with over 600 students. There are 2 physical education teachers at our school and we teach 2 classes at a time. We would like to purchase 2 of these sets so that we could use them in our station rotations for warm ups as well as on our fitness days. It is our hope that by introducing this game option to them that they will buy one to use at home in order to be able to get some exercise while having fun, too. That is our main goal this year: to get kids moving and having fun both at school as well as when they go home. This will improve their overall physical as well as mental health and this seems to be something they love to do.
