  • Sensory Solutions for Autism & Special Needs

    Funded Aug 8, 2013

I want to take a moment to express my huge thanks to all of you who are helping my students with special needs. Each item has made an impact on students in my class. For example, the Theraputty has turned out to be an exciting tool for spelling, and has helped students gain strength in fingers and hands. Second, several children find extreme comfort and calmness when using the weighted shoulder snake for writing (their most difficult subject). In fact, one student says the snake helps him write "way better than before." Finally, the two Body Sox are amazing! Kids love using them during break time when they earn a free choice activity. One boy, who struggled with daily outbursts, started to request one in order to prevent him from having a tantrum. Over the last 8 weeks, his tantrums have lessened dramatically!

I am very pleased with the results of having these items in my class. They are proving to be effective learning tools for my students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your desire to help my students be successful. Your generous investment in my students will not be forgotten!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goodell

  • Chromebooks For Special Needs

    Funded Feb 19, 2013

I am filled with thankfulness for each of you who have given to fund our project! Already the Chromebook laptops have made an impact in my class in ways I did not expect. A student with vision impairments found success in learning numbers with the Google Dot-to-Dot app. Other students are using www.scholastic.com/lfo videos to get excited about unusual sea creatures like an octopus that looks like Dumbo the elephant. Even tasks like logging in to a website with a unique username and password has promoted computer literacy. Finally, one student with major behavior issues who avoided all work has made a total turn-around. He now spends extra time practicing both reading and math because he's determined to stay in first place for answering the most questions correctly on www.scootpad.com.

It is humbling to have received support from so many donors. Whether you are my friend, acquaintance, nationwide organization giving matching funds, or a person with a common vision, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! And special thanks to the Board of Directors of Donors Choose: Not only do you make this all possible, you also contribute significant funds to individual projects like mine.

I assure you all that I will do my best to use these computers to the fullest for the students I serve every year. Thank you for sharing my passion to bring the latest technology to students with special needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goodell

  • Help Musical Students with Special Needs

    Funded Apr 20, 2012

Thank you so much for your contributions to my special needs classroom! The xylophones and music books came very quickly so we were able to use them before summer vacation started. I also launched a very successful check-out system so children could check out a music book and recorder to take home to practice. In fact, my fourth graders selected a song from the music books and successfully auditioned for the end-of-year talent show! It was so great to see them perform on stage. They loved the attention and applause after each performance. Plus it was extra special for the child whose father came to school for the first time ever to see one of the performances!

We have just started the current school year and I will continue to use all the materials and instruments! So from the bottom of my heart, I say thank you for your investment in my class, and in my students. You have helped to create a love of music and sense of achievement in each of my students that will not be forgotten!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goodell

I teach some amazing K-3rd graders! They are lots of fun, but struggle with all kinds of mental, physical and learning disabilities. Our school is in a rural, agricultural area, with many families living below the poverty line. Thank you for visiting my page and supporting my class!
