  • Squishmallows for Reading Rewards

    Funded Feb 15, 2025

Thank you for funding our project for Squishmallows. When the boxes started arriving, you should have heard all the oooohs and ahhhhhhs. Students were all talking about their favorite Squishmallow.

We have a strong reading culture in our classroom. This year I have set goals for my students and have been rewarding them when they have reached their goals.

The Squishmallows will be used to reward students who have met their goals beyond the basic goals. Each trimester I have a list of requirements and the student that has the highest scores gets to choose a Squishmallow. This is very motivating and students work hard to manage their time and to meet their requirements.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Azevedo

  • Supplies for Science

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you for funding our supplies for science materials. I requested items to replace the supplies needed to participate in our annual science projects.

One of the most popular items requested was supplies to make soap. Each year for Mother's Day my students make soap to give to their moms. It is a fun project to learn about states of matter.

In addition to the soap, I requested a variety of National Geographic books. My students struggle with reading informational text books and have a hard time passing tests. Having a large selection of National Geographic books gives students engaging books that help them build the skill of looking for specific information in text.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

  • Refilling Our Bookshelves

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you for funding our projects for books. We have a strong culture of reading in my classroom. My students read every day after lunch.

Part of my reading program is that students are required to read books in different genres. One genre is holiday books. I ask students to read five holiday books throughout the year. They then take comprehension tests on the books. After the students pick one of the books and complete a book report.

The holiday books you donated help students reach their goal of reading holiday books. To keep students motivated, they need a variety of books to choose from. The books you donated will help keep my students motivated and will give them more choices.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

  • National Geographic Books

    Funded Oct 4, 2024

Thank you for funding our National Geographic books. My students and I both love these books. My students love the books because they are colorful and engaging. I love them because the students like reading them and the content presented is helpful for building comprehension.

My students struggle with reading informational text and taking comprehension tests on this genre. In order to get better at testing, students need to read, read, read. In order to read, they need a variety of books to keep them engaged. Having more National Geographic books will be essential in helping students build the skills to improve comprehension.

Thank you for your support and by funding our project. These books will go to great use by many students.”

  • Students Rewards

    Funded May 16, 2024

Thank you for funding our project for reading rewards. We have so many goals set for reaching reading achievements. I like to make sure to honor students who are reaching their goals.

The Squishmallows are being used for students who go above and beyond their goals. I look at comprehension scores and accuracy to determine who the big winners are.

Having. goals and prizes is very motivating to students. I have seen more growth and motivation because of the goals that have been set. Mostly the students are intrinsically motivated but having a few prizes for top students is even more motivating.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Azevedo

  • Interactive Genre Journals

    Funded Sep 17, 2024

Thank you for funding our project for interactive journals.

This year I am upping the requirements for our journals. In addition to recording the books students read, students will decorate and personalize their journals.

Each section of the book has a genre requirement. Once students have met the requirement, they complete a book report and add it to the journal. Once the book report is completed, the fun begins. Students get to use the supplies (stickers, tape, etc...), to decorate their pages.

This year my students are very engaged in their reading goals so they can add some of their personality to their journals. I love how invested they are in the project and are reading and creating beautiful journals they can reflect on and enjoy.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

  • Moving Mountains

    Funded Sep 10, 2024

The theme for my classroom this year is how students will move mountains. Our classroom title is "How I Will Move Mountains." My students have created goals this year on how they will achieve their goals. They chose a social, emotional, and academic goal.

The supplies you donated are for students to track their goals (the behavior charts and stickers). Some of the other supplies like the border paper and chart paper are to create bulletin boards to keep our theme alive.

    Thank you for your generosity.”
