  • Cultivating Writers in Math and Science through Literature

    Funded Mar 30, 2012

Words cannot express how thankful I am for your generous donations to our classroom. Because of you, my students now have math and science literature that will help them become writers across various disciplines. Students use these picture books as examples of how important it is to be able to explain their thinking in both math in science through writing. In addition, students have better understanding of new concepts in math and science because they are able to reinforce what they learned by making connections to their everyday lives.

Over the last few years, budget cuts have affected students in so many ways. Without you help, students wouldn't have access to math and science literature. The books that you helped purchase, helps the students solidify what they learn but also cultivates a love for math and science. Thanks to your help, we are creating more mathematicians and scientists for the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fortuno Catalan

  • Adding Some Fun into Math!

    Funded Mar 23, 2012

First and foremost thank you all so much for your generous donations to our classroom. The students are learning so much using the materials that were donated. Some of the materials are being used as centers that the students can work at independently, while I use the other materials either in a whole group or small group setting.

The students really like having new centers to use. They love using the geometry kit to build 3D figures. It has really helped them to grasp the names and use words to describe the figures they are building. They are learning so much and having fun doing it. It is truly building a love for math. The students are also enjoying using the keys and the decomposing blocks as well. We have found many ways to use the keys: sorting, counting, adding and subtracting. The decomposing center has helped them have a better understanding of how numbers work together.

The number lines, foam numbers and the big money are also a wonderful addition to our classroom. We have used the number lines to not only count and recognize numbers, but also to count on from given numbers, and jump along to add and subtract numbers. It is very helpful to the students to see there is more than one way to find an answer. The students love using the big numbers to make larger numbers or to show 10 more or 10 less. I use the magnetic money everyday. The students can manipulate it to show different amounts or challenge the other students to guess the amount. It is big, so it is easy for them to see when we use it in a whole group situation.

All of the materials that have been given to us, have truly helped the students become stronger math students. It has also encouraged them to challenge themselves in math. All of my students love math and your generosity has certainly made the love of math grow and made math fun for them as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tweedy

  • Wild & Wonderful Workstations!

    Funded Mar 23, 2012

I would like to thank you so much for your very generous contributions to our classroom project. When I received the materials I immediately shared them with my students. They were so excited to see the beautiful gifts that had been sent to them. Although the previous workstation activities that they were accustomed to using were rigorous and educational, they were not much to look at. I had made many of the activities myself and due to a lack of color printing had to print them in black and white. These new learning activities are engaging, rigorous and beautifully colored for there enjoyment. They have had the opportunity to use most of the materials during their math and language arts workstations. I must say, the new materials have brought out a new spirit in the students during these times. I am so very appreciative of your support!”

    With gratitude,

  • Bully Free Is The Place To Be!

    Funded Mar 23, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our school and my students! Bullying is a terrible problem that my students are faced with on a daily basis. The bean bags have made our library classroom a comfortable place where my students feel free to share their worries and concerns. The puppet stand holds the puppets that allow me to role play appropriate behaviors for my students. The wireless mouse has made projecting our computer so much easier.

These gifts have really enhanced our program. Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

  • 1,2,3,4 We Are Counting and Lots More

    Funded Mar 23, 2012

Our class would like to thank you again for your donation that bought wonderful learning toys for our classroom. When we opened the box and showed our children you thought it was Christmas morning. They asked us how we got the toys and we explained to them that there are wonderful people in this world that would like them to learn as much as we do. I showed them our web page and read your notes and they were so excited.

We put out the toys and the children got to pick partners and explore the new toys. We ended up spending an entire hour playing with all of them. The girls seemed to like the cookies, cans and the shape toys and of course the boys loved the wooden tree. As you can see in our pictures we posted, the toys are a big hit for our soon to be kindergarten kids.

Without special people like you our school would struggle to get new materials. With the economy being so tough right now it is also hard for teachers to spend the money they really do not have. So with open arms Mrs. Y and I and all of our children hug each one of you and say thank you again. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Help KIPPsters Discover Ecology Through Owl Pellets!

    Funded Mar 24, 2012

Thank you so much for your donations! I greatly appreciate your belief in my project, my kids, and the importance of science education!

Your support will allow my kids to explore ecology through an engaging hands-on activity. I hope this will not be a great learning opportunity, but will ignite in my students an enduring passion for science that will carry on long after they have left my classroom.

    Once again, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Tejwani
