  • Kindergarten Mathletes

    Funded Apr 26, 2017

Words cannot express how thankful I am that you have generously given these materials to my students. They absolutely love playing with all of the wonderful games. They use them during centers, and of course that is their absolute favorite part of the day, especially math centers.

Most of my students don't have the opportunity to get new things so I love being able to give them the chance to get new games and other things that they can use to become better mathematicians.

My kids are so very grateful for you and all you have done for my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thompson

  • Establishing Financial Literate Scholars

    Funded Mar 9, 2017

I wanted to take the time to sincerely thank you for donating to our classroom project to enhance financial literacy. I service a community that is underprivileged and at risk due to poverty. The amount of growth that I have witnessed from each of scholars has been tremendous. Because of your donations, scholars are able to visually see money and understand the importance of healthy spending habits.

I have begun to use the play money as classroom bucks. Within the store, scholars are able to purchase incentives and understand the importance of saving funds in the case of an emergency (purchase an emergency homework pass). I love how my scholars have become interested in being financially literate because this is a vital skill that should be learned early in life.”

  • Money, Money, Money...Money: We Need Chrome-Books to Become Money Wise!

    Funded Feb 14, 2017

There are not enough words I can use to express the gratitude felt by my students and myself. This experience had given my students a life long lesson in altruism that I hope they will carry with them and practice for the rest of their lives. It's a humbling experience to have a project funded by people you've never even met. I can only hope your kindness will have a ripple effect on the lives of all of my students it has affected.

These chrome books will allow my students to study beyond the walls in which they are confined. It allows them to explore the world beyond our small Kentucky town and learn about the diverse world around them. We already use these chrome books every day for more then we could have even imagined and with out All of you that would not have been possible!

I could never say enough to express the depths of my gratitude, but I will conclude by saying "Thank you! You are amazing and have made a huge difference in the way our class learns!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clarkson

  • iCount, iSpend, iLearn, from an iPad

    Funded Feb 17, 2017

We are so thrilled with our iPad! First of all we were able to get a solid case as well to insure the life of it and with our special needs it has already been dropped, but still in perfect condition. While some of my students are still learning to count just to 10, the iPad has given them multiple fun ways to learn their numbers and make rote counting more engaging. While on the other hand I have students that are practicing what their wants are verses what their needs are and with the different apps they are able to make individualized selections without any help from the teacher. Independence is the main goal of this class and this technology has been able to give my students more of that.

The most exciting part of our iPad is the endless amount of apps we are able to download and therefore each student has found one that not only teaches them, but they like and are engaged into.

All of my students have taken a liking to our new iPad and request using the black iPad and are learning to take turns because it is a hot item in our classroom.”

  • Recycling Project

    Funded Apr 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation. The students have set up the recycling bins around the school. Many of the students have made comments about how they appreciate having recycling around the school. Other students have commented on how nice the recycling bins are, especially the large metal one. They have made the first collection, and they are on their way to the recycling center. We hope to save up for a zoom lens, so that the students can take nice pictures at sporting events. I think it will take about 5-6 months, but I think that the students are learning so many life lessons about saving/financial responsibility, and ecological recycling/responsibility. The students in yearbook, as well as the student body as a whole, really appreciate your generous donation. I think it will make this school a better place.”

  • Charging into Reading

    Funded Apr 15, 2017

Thank you so very much for your kind donations towards a Charging Cart to help secure our Chromebooks. Thanks to your help we know have a safe secure spot to store our technology, and to ensure that it gets charged so every student can use technology in their daily learning. Each of the Chromebooks are numbered so that the students know which one is their's to use for the school year. The students have been learning more responsibility and how to properly take care of their technology. At the end of each day, they must make sure that they put the Chromebooks in the correct charging port and ensure that it is plugged in for the following day.

Each day students look forward to using the technology to enhance their education, they are even learning cause and effect when they forget to charge the computers. In some cases students have had trouble comprehending the stories that they read, with the charged computers they can listen to the chapter that they just read to better understand the story.

All of the students are thrilled about having usable computers in the classroom, the ones that are most excited are the students who don't have access to the technology at home. Charged computers have given these students an opportunity that they may not have had until they reached High School.”

  • Board Games So Students Aren't Bored!

    Funded Apr 26, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my school. My students are absolutely loving these games during their down time. I love them because they promote critical thinking while the students just think they are getting away with not having to work!

When we got the package, my students did not know what to think. The first thing they thought was "Why does my teacher have a bunch of games at school". Imagine their surprise and delight when they found out that the board games were for them to use! These were high schools and they were giddy with this unexpected surprise.

As we move forward, I will continue to engage my students with outside of the box ideas to try to make them well rounded individuals. I use non-traditional methods to engage students in learning. I am getting ready to purchase 3-4 Risk board games to use in a geography class to teach geographic concepts.

Thank you so much for your support. My students and I will look back fondly on the day they found out that we get to play games in class!”

  • Out With Old, in With the New

    Funded Nov 18, 2016

Our brand new MacBook Pro arrived today just in time for kids to have the opportunity to create and edit videos about their own experiences which we used to create a montage for the school to show that all students are human. We also were able to use the computer just in time for our personal economics learning projects. We truly appreciate your support.

My students were excited to learn to use the new computer and the apps that I added to help them develop their creativity and learn in a way that they do best--by doing something hands on. It really created a great atmosphere in my classroom, building community, as each student taught another how to do new things on the computer and the internet. The learning that happened in my classroom was amplified to a degree that I did not know would be possible from simply adding a new computer with access to tools that we didn't have before.

There was one particular student that really came out of the shadows and went from doing almost no class work and not being engaged, to being fully engaged and even leading groups of students in how-to sessions using the computer. I spoke with him after class one day and complimented him on his leadership ability, thanked him for teaching other students and supporting the work we were doing in the classroom. He looked at me and said, "Ms., I finally feel like I belong somewhere; like I'm able to help others and that makes me feel like I have a purpose, which I never felt before in school." As a result, this student not only helped others but became a member of the community--something I had been trying to get him to do for two school years. He now has a group of friends, feels confident in his abilities, and ended up passing all of his classes. It was amazing to see that a computer could help bring a disengaged student to a model one. Please know that this would NOT HAVE HAPPENED without the support of you--the donors--who helped in getting this computer into my classroom.

I am eternally grateful for this gift because I know that it will help my students to learn more about themselves, become a community, and step into their leadership for quite some time. Thank you so much for your contribution. It has made an incredible difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Monte

  • Economics & Entrepreneurship: It's Deliciously Simple!

    Funded May 2, 2017

Thank you so very much for your generous contribution to our project, "Economics & Entrepreneurship: It's Deliciously Simple!". It is because of generous donations such as yours that we are able to make educational economics projects come to life within the classroom. With back-to-school time happening right now, it is exciting to get back to the classroom and know that I have some amazing Donors Choose projects coming up. I am very excited to participate in this unit, and I know that my students will definitely learn because of your donation. Many thanks!”

  • Surviving Money Island: A Path To Financial Success

    Funded May 15, 2017

I would like to once again say thank you for your incredible donation to my classroom. The generosity you have shown to the students in our Mississippi Delta school district is impacting.

My students were able to use the materials that you helped to purchase. Making it possible for them to take part in an out-of-the-box project, that they were excited to be a part of.

My students are using the laptop to learn in's and out's of personal financing. Several students have been able to check out the computer and even take it home to continue their learning at home.

Again, thank you for your investment in my students.”

    With gratitude,
