  • I Think I Can...and With Ink I Can!

    Funded Jun 8, 2011

What a wonderful surprise! Thank you all so very much for your contributions. It is very gratifying to have the support of so many individuals coming together to help public school students.

These ink supplies will be incredibly helpful. I will be able to design and print my own work for students. This will be essential in helping me tailor work to the individual learning needs of each student.

In addition, students will be able to print out student work samples to display to their peers and also take home to their families.

Thank you again for helping me to bring needed supplies into my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • Help Us Find the Color of Our Parachute - College and Work

    Funded Apr 5, 2011

Thank you all so very much for your generous donation to my Holomua Ikaika class. This is an advisory class where the students prepare for college and career.

The students have all received their flash drives and books. The students have been utilizing the flash drives and bringing them in so I can print resumes and documents for them. They will be in good shape to complete their personal transition plans when they return as seniors.

We also spending time today going through the What Color is Your Parachute for Teens book. Each student took a copy with them. They will have the opportunity to utilize it as a resource to help them plan for the future.

    Your support is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • Help Us Map Our Future - Geography Tools in Social Studies

    Funded Apr 19, 2011

Thank you all so much for the resources you helped provide to my classroom. I put the map up on the wall this morning and we already got to use it.

In my U.S. History class, we are studying World War II. Today we were discussing the Battle of Midway Island and I was able to show my students exactly where it was. The students were able to visualize the information I was providing much more clearly. They were also able to connect to the attack at Pearl Harbor and see where we are in relation to all these events. It really made the lesson come alive.

Your support of public education and my classroom is so appreciated. You make it possible for me to do more with my curriculum. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • An Apple a Day Keeps Ignorance Away-Environment Science iPad

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

Woohoo our iPad arrived yesterday! We now have it and all the accessories. Thank you so very much for your help. It's very exciting!

I've already downloaded some apps and you can take a look at them in the photographs I've posted. I am so looking forward to being able to show my student some great things with the applications available for the iPad. I know the students will be very interested because they highly visual learners. I also think it will be a lot of fun!

Thank you so very much for your support of public education. Please know that your help makes a real difference in the lives of my students.”

  • A Computer In Our Classroom-Can We Make This a Reality?

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

Yeah! Our computer has arrived. Thank you all so very much for providing such an essential piece of technology to my classroom.

With a computer, we will be able to stream video and utilize online resources for research. We will also be able to view supplementary materials such as Flash animations. We will have the opportunity to do virtual labs online. We can create and view presentations in class. The possibilities are truly endless.

Thank you very much for your support of public educations. Individuals like you make a true difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • Bring the World Wide Web into Our World (Internet Access)

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

Thank you all so very much for your kind donations. We have received all our materials and they are in use!

The extension cord now reaches the wall so we are not continually tripping over it. In addition, it's covered and safer all around. A few small items are making a big difference.

We also have our speakers and our wireless web access. The speakers are GREAT! The students are so enthusiastic that we can really hear well now. The other speakers we had simply did not have the power to amplify enough in the classroom. In addition, I have several hearing impaired students and this is such a huge help. With our router, we can stream video and do online research. I predict it will continue to provide great supplements to our curriculum.

Thank you very much. Your interest and support is valuable to public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words - An HP Camera for Science

    Funded Feb 19, 2011

Thank you all so very much for your thoughtful support of my classroom. My students were very excited to hear that our project was funded. We have received our camera and we were already able to utilize it to photograph our worm dissection lab in biology and marine science.

I anticipate that this one small piece of technology will have a strong impact on learning in my classroom. I will be able to add more visuals to my presentations and include visual directions in addition to written directions. For some students with special needs, this can be extremely helpful. Our camera will take short videos and we can utilize these clips in future classes as exemplars.

I very much appreciate your assistance. Please know that your contribution has a very direct impact on student learning. Thank you for supporting me, my students and DonorsChoose.”

  • The Belly Rules the Mind - Feed USA and Healthy Eating

    Funded Feb 21, 2011

We received our food items right before spring break. Now that the students have returned and we are back in the swing of things, I can tell you that I am valuing having healthy snacks available.

Many of my students are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Breakfast can consist of something picked up at the gas station. Now I have food in my room that I can provide to my students as needed. To give you an example, we had Hawaii State Achievement testing last week. I gave every student something to eat prior to taking the test. Fuel for the body is fuel for the mind.

Please know that your resources are being put to good use. Thank you very much for your kindness.”

  • Help Us "See" Science with a Projector in Our Lab

    Funded Jan 3, 2011

Thank you ALL so very much for your kindness in supporting my classroom. We received our projector today and the students were so very excited. It made them feel great that people they don't even know care about their education enough to provide them with technology to help them learn.

We opened the box right up and installed the software and immediately began to project some things in class from my personal computer. It was very engaging for the students. I look forward to being able to project bell assignments. We can also utilize the projector to show PowerPoint presentations and to look over lab assignments as a group. We will also be able to view microscope slides and pictures as well as watch DVDs. I'm sure this list does not even touch the surface of all we will find to do with our new projector.

Thank you again for your willingness to help out the special education students in my science classes. They are very visual learners and this will certainly be a huge help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues

  • Help Us Create a Clean and Safe Science Lab

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you all very much for your contribution to my classroom. Our supplies have been arriving and it has been so very helpful to have what we need.

The supplies you helped us obtain are allowing us to keep our science lab clean and safe. Now when we do labs, we have the ability to wash off the tabletops and sweep up the floor. It sounds like a small thing but there were labs we could not do because we couldn't clean up the potential mess. Now we can do a wider variety of activities without worrying about any mess or anyone slipping.

Thank you again for helping. Please know your thoughtfulness is having a direct impact on my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodrigues
