Rockin' Rhythm Centers
Funded Jan 22, 2018My students are beyond excited about our new resources! I set out our Tom-Tom Drums at the front of the classroom after they arrived and every class that week had a million questions about where they came from and when they were going to get to play the new drums. Kindergarten was particularly excited; you could feel the energy surrounding the new drums.
We've already had a lot of fun implementing our new resources in Kindergarten, First Grade and Fifth Grade. Kindergarten and First have been enjoying getting to drum rhythm patterns. The rhythms in kindergarten are pictorial and help prepare little ones to read true rhythms next year. First grade has been having fun reading and drumming rhythm patterns that contain standard notation (quarter notes, quarter rests and eighth notes). In Fifth grade the NoteKnacks have been a hit. Students have enjoyed working on creating a group composition in four.
I'm looking forward to using the NoteKnacks with 3rd grade before the school year ends. They have been working on learning the difference between 2 and 3 beat rhythms. This resource will be a great way to review what they have learned so far.
Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.”

World Music - For 3rd Grade And More!
Funded Feb 5, 2017Thank you so much for contributing to my Donors Choose project. My students were beyond excited about our new set of Tabla Drums. We have already had the opportunity to include them in our spring performance. We performed a set of three folk tales around the world; one of which was India. When I worked on writing the music to fit this show I knew tabla drums would give the pieces for this part of the performance the perfect sound and it was really exciting to have the drums to bring the vision to life.
Third grade has felt the impact of this new addition the most. The last country we learned about in a unit on music and instruments from around the world was India. I loved hearing how they compared this instrument to other drums they were already familiar with like the conga or bongo drums. My students whose families heritage is Indian became our teachers. They took great pride in teaching us about an instrument that is an important part of their music culture.
I am so lucky to have family and friends who understand the positive impact music has on our lives. Thank you again for making this project a reality.”

Instrument Family Resources
Funded Feb 28, 2013Thank you so much for supporting the KCE music program. Having real samples of instruments and their parts really impacts student learning. Often, it can be difficult to interpret what a part of an instrument looks like when you are examining a photograph. Having a brass mouthpiece in my classroom allows students to see this part of instruments of the brass family and hear the difference between low and high tones. We will continue our study of these instruments and others to deepen our musical understanding.”

Welcome to our Garden: Growing Great Musicians
Funded Dec 23, 2011Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project. My kids had so much fun preparing for our spring musical and were so excited that they all could be in costume! The fabric you donated made it possible to costume each child in our performance, including the instrumentalists!
The other materials that were donated have also made a big impact on my students. They love the game "Daffy Duck Pass the Buck". It is a great end of the year review of the musical concepts we have been learning about. We have found many ways to incorporate the new instruments into our lessons and the music timeline has helped us make connections with the American composers we have been learning about.
Thank you again for your donation. These materials will continue to impact my students for years to come. ”
